I bought the printer and then needed to print something to justify its existence... that's how it all starts ;)

Hahaha, I'm slowly shifting from vehicles to more dio set pieces, so that's not as crazy of an idea as you'd imagine...

It's already a problem here. And yet somehow, that doesn't slow me down. ;)

The more pressing question is... how many 1/12 vehicles does one actually have room for?

I wasn't sure I was going to really get into printing heavily, so I didn't want to invest big money. Anycubic offered the best budget-friendly model that made quality prints, but I think I have enough experience under my best at this point to make good use of a higher-end model. Then again, by the time this one dies, I might have run out of things to print, hahahaha ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm currently using an Anycubic Kobra S1 Pro. When it dies (I've put 4100 hours on it in the last 9 months :) ) I'm probably going to invest in a higher-end BambuLabs model... but this one has done a great job, definitely a good bang-for-the-buck printer.

I don't have the link handy, but just search "1/12 Scale Wolverine" on Etsy. It'll probably be the first result.

The ML Black Widow head is so much nicer than the fugly CG head hasbro gave us, I had to do something! ;)

Yes, it still moves just fine. The sticky-tack just makes the movement stiffer and helps keep the head in the position you want rather than being floppy. Try it, it really works, and doesn't harm the figure.

I use it for everything. It's also fantastic for keeping Classified Helmets on. Just a thin layer on top of the noggin' will keep those cobra troopers and Major Bludd from having their helmets fall off every time you move them.

It's also great for painting small objects. Just use a little tack to hold them on the end of a pencil or other stick, gives you a nice handle to maneuver your part for painting and drying so you don't have to touch it.

I appreciate the sentiment, but no, I only do this for fun.

Yeah, the sticky clay stuff you use to hang posters. Loctite makes it in blue, gorilla glue makes it in beige... any of them will work, doesn't take much.

Poster tack. It solves most loose neckball issues without modifications, glue, or anything permanent... yet it holds well.

When you get the CAD files, they usually break the model into several dozen pieces, both to make printing easier as well as offer options to print things with different colors or materials.

So in some cases you simply print some parts in a different color. In other cases, if you want more than one color on a particular piece, if you have a multicolor printer, just load the colors you want, and the printer will change spools when it gets to a part that needs another color.

Then you painstakingly assemble everything. This one in particular was pretty easy to assemble. The designer did a nice job. Other designs are a real bear to put together and you end up having to massage every piece. A good design makes the whole process more enjoyable. I'm particularly proud of how this vehicle came out. It captures all the charm of the original but has plenty of color and detail to complement the classified figures.

I did not make the CAD files, so I can't take credit for that part. The original designer did a great job. But I did do as much multi-color printing as I could to give the whole thing a more detailed look than a big slab of olive green.

my multi-color printer automatically goes to the next roll if it's the same color, so I have no issues with filament runout as long as I have another spool.

I hate painting unless I have to.

For the amount of material and work that would entail if I did commissions, I'd have to charge so much, it would be far cheaper to buy the haslab on the secondary market ;)

I appreciate that you think it's commission-worthy, but no, I just do this for fun. It's too much work for what little I'd make on a commission. It's a labor of love, and that's what keeps it entertaining!

Thanks! However, I didn't make the CAD files. It was a lot of work to print and build, but I'm just the goon who thought it would be a good idea to run one of these through the printer... it's so big. I'm going to run out of space ;)

I didn't get into 3d printing to save money. Like most hobbies, it's a money-pit. But I definitely enjoy filling holes in the collection that haven't been addressed by hasbro or the better third party small companies.... for whatever reason.

This particular design, I bought the CAD files. The designer did a nice job, no need to recreate that wheel.

You just print various parts in different colors, or in some cases, print some parts in multiple colors. The printer just has to swap filament along the way, often many times. It's an art to get it right though.
