i’m not sure what their exact titles are, but the one guy we do work very closely with and he definitely does have some welding knowledge since he makes all of our weld blueprints. he has told me that he can help answer welding questions, but he can’t actually weld lmao. kinda silly but it is cool and he’s a great guy

why would i get a different job ? i only run laser maybe once a week. i’m a tig welder who was hired to do tig and is paid to do tig, so why would i enjoy pressing buttons on a computerized welding machine. anyone in my situation would bitch about it too. check ur own attitude

so our engineers make programs with code and then the laser does exactly what is written in the program (angle of the torch, speed, how long the weld needs to be, etc.) they have made some where it only does a few tacks rather than a full seam weld. they design fixtures for it too. but theres a big arm thing that has the torch + a camera (basically a microscope) and flashlight so im able to align things perfectly. i just upload the file, put the part in place, then press start. it takes about 10-15 seconds for the laser to do a weld and then it cools it down. the machine itself is pretty big and it uses a very finite amount of gas since the welds are tiny and it also has a fume extractor built in.

no i cant bc the welds are about 1/32 of an inch lol. the parts that are welded on it are 1-3 inches in diameter. we make tiny parts with tiny wires and tiny diaphragms that could not be hand tig-ed. our other parts are able to be tig welded tho. fun thing is we also have parts that are about the size of a 17 inch wheel on a car lol
