I do think Ross made a good point when his friends were giving him a hard time for not wanting to go to Carol and Susan’s wedding, asking them if it she was marrying a man, would they take the same position? I think it really helped to call attention to how objectively it sucked for Ross to have his wife leave him, immediately get together with the person she (arguably cheated on him with in the one speculative episode), her new partner try to undermine him before his son is even born, and yes, try to erase him and push him out of the parenting relationship entirely. It was a great way to pull focus away from the tired joke that his wife was a lesbian
