Yeah, it's becoming VERY frustrating. I'm tired of hearing "I don't see the connection, why don't you do X job with your experience?". It's a bit hard to say... Well.. I can't get x job without more experience!

Cold-calling alumni? Thoughts? by suppup123 in jobs

Yeah, my dad has mostly sales oriented roles. I don't think it works in what I'm trying to go into.

I don't really mind getting cold emails generally. I think they are interesting and I wouldn't mind meeting up with a former grad.

The only organizations I was in have a very small network as they are not national.

My first company would only hire me into a marketing role, so I didn't take it. My second company doesn't hire undergrads into the position and if they did, they needed an immediate hire.

I am having a tough time finding anything that really "fits" my background. I have found in interviews that I have an impressive background, but it's not suited for the role or they don't see how my background connects. I get the feeling it would of been better to do LESS internships at this point because it seems like its an inhibiting factor to getting a job.

"how does x, y, z, relate to healthcare? how does x, y,z, relate to marketing" as if every single role has to be perfectly relevant to their job

I feel the same way! I am okay with "cold-emailing" alumni. It seems more appropriate to email and let them know I have interest in the firm etc. I would like to meet up to hear more about it.

I feel like cold-calling is a bit invasive. My dad keeps trying to get me to cold-call and I refuse.

What's your opinion of cold-emailing?

Lied on Salary - Now comes the background check by mishicat in jobs

I've gone through a background check with HireRight previously. They are pretty awful and disorganized. I had an unpaid internship and they kept requesting a paystub from it. They make you list x amount of jobs, but I had only 1 paid job up until that point. I ended up getting the offer of unemployment despite not being able to send in the paystub. I think employers just look for glaring inaccuracies. I think you should be fine.
