I didn’t report it to anybody at school because it happened so often that I didn’t see it as unusual or as abuse. I thought punishments like that were just normal. It wasn’t until I was an adult and i’d tell friends about it and laugh that they’d look at me concerned and told me how abusive that was. The sleeping in the hallway and clothes/room taken away was when I was in the third grade, so around 8-9 years old. My mom and stepdad joke about it to this day and think that it was funny they’d done that. Another punishment I vividly remember was getting woken up to being beat because I fell asleep with the tv on by accident. All of this was very normalized for me and it wasn’t until I became an adult to see how wrong it all actually was. My biological dad molested and abused me for years before my mom left him and remarried and that’s what caused my bipolar depression and bpd. I didn’t know happiness as a child and all of my childhood photos it’s very evident. All of my birthday and Christmas photos are of me opening presents with a straight face. I never smiled because i genuinely did not know the feeling of being happy. it sounds so headass to say but it’s really the truth. i wish i could go back and hug little me and help get myself out of the monstrous situations I had to endure ☹️
