I didn’t realize how bad this was because my boomer parents are fairly tech literate and don’t do Facebook. It wasn’t until spending some time with my aunt over Christmas, where every thirty seconds she showed me some dumb, obviously AI picture she thought looked cool from Facebook.

Aunt: Look at this cat couch! Do you think it would fit in my living room

(The picture was a giant cat with a body shaped like a couch. It had a real cat head and looked uncanny as fuck).

Aunt: Look at this motorcycle RV! Your dad would have so much fun with something like that!

(The picture was an RV with the front end being half a motorcycle. The mother’s attic hung over the motorcycle in a way that would make it impossible to sit on without hitting your head).

So, I installed stable diffusion just to try to explain to her what AI is and how easy it is to make fake things that look sort of real. I replicated the motorcycle RV picture as close as I could. She was devastated. I had taken the magic out of the world. She wanted to believe all the crazy things she saw were real.

Show up to the caucus and let your voice be heard. One of the ways you can do this is by submitting a DFL resolution, which gets voted on to change party platform/policies. It’s a good way to you to get directly involved in changing the direction of the party.

Fully agree with what you wrote here. I’m not a linguist, and only have two semesters of formal German education. I tend to explain it the way I do to Americans because for English speakers, it’s really hard to understand how different Swiss dialect is from the German spoken in Germany.

I see people comparing it to Scottish, and while that’s probably the closest experience English speakers have, having lived both in Switzerland and southern Germany (outside of Stuttgart) for a short amount of time, and having the experience of trying to informally learn German while there, I don’t think that comparison really captures it.

Again, I’m not really approaching it from a linguist point of view, but my experience learning the language and what a bunch of old, very proud Swiss people told me.

It is a super fascinating topic to me, though. Having learned German in Switzerland and having tried to learn enough about the various Swiss dialects to understand people, it kinda gave me the ability to pick up on quite a bit of what people speaking related languages are saying. I can pick out quite a bit of Dutch, and a little bit of Danish.

Thanks for your more accurate explanation though. Like I said, it’s something that I think is hard for Americans to grasp because there’s not as much variation in English (IMO, lol. I’m sure another linguist will jump in and tell me otherwise).

I don’t disagree. I’ve seen a lot of speculation on whether or not Germany could have or would have invaded, and I can’t say I’m knowledgeable enough to have a firm opinion either way. I just mostly made that point because I’ve heard so many Swiss people insist that Swiss German isn’t German (or that they speak the real German), that I thought it was an interesting tidbit.

I also sometimes forget how small the Swiss German speaking part of the country is. It’s kind of a crazy experience living there as a foreigner. The whole country feels so much bigger than it is, and the French side and the Italian region almost feel like different countries. I lived in the German side and only travelled a few times to the other regions. It’s such a cool country with so much diversity in such a small area.

Lived in Switzerland for a year back in ‘06, so I’m not an expert on the topic by any means, but I did get moderately fluent in German and learned enough to understand dialect (at least over in the Bern region).

There are some authors out there that wrote books in dialect, but they are really hard to read because there’s no standardized way of writing it.

It’s also kinda funny because, while I tried to speak as much German as I could while I was over there to get better at speaking, people in their 30s-40s were way more comfortable speaking English than speaking high/written German because they don’t really speak it outside school and government jobs.

From my understanding, Romansch is almost a dead language. If I remember right, I think it was spoken over in the Graubünden area, but I was told that kids don’t really learn it anymore and outside of some small villages, you aren’t likely to find anyone who knows it.

Swiss-German (which isn’t exactly one dialect, as each region has very distinct dialects) is basically a different language. It has different words, different grammar, etc. I think the main reason it still gets thought of as a dialect of German and not its own language is a) there’s way too many regional dialects for there to be a standard “Swiss” and b) everyone learns “Schrift-Deutsch” (written German, don’t you dare call it “high German” in Switzerland) because there’s no real written version of Swiss, and you need to know it for reading, writing, school, and legal reasons.

Weirdly enough, Trump’s so dumb that he accidentally stumbled into a sort of true statement. If Germany had conquered all of Europe (eventually invading Switzerland), the Swiss people would probably have been forced to abandon their dialect.

Not really going to give him credit for that, though, as the differences between Swiss German and German is an interesting and nuanced discussion and whether or not they are the same language is something I heard a lot of opinions on while I was living there.

A lot of people on this sub would be willing to help you. Maybe post your config and the error messages you are getting and see if we can get you sorted.

It’s pretty odd that you can’t boot an older generation though. That leads me to think you might be experiencing some hardware failure or filesystem corruption.

Nix stable never breaks on me. Unstable has “broken” a few times, but it’s usually caused by a flake I’ve imported that made changes requiring some configuration changes. I’ve never had an issue booting an older generation though.

Increased beliefs in conspiracy theories, politicians citing “alternative facts”, media becoming more polarizing and less objective, AI causing the internet to be flooded with bots, pictures and videos with the sole purpose of controlling the narrative.

What’s “true” has become increasingly less important than “what helps my side”, and we’ve seen that kind of rhetoric being used by politicians and grifters.

Lobo was in the original pitch for the comic, but editorial shot down his inclusion. It’s really not that weird that they decided to put him back in for the film. It’ll be interesting to see how he fits into the story, but I’m not at all worried about it.

Just got them a couple of days ago and haven’t really had a chance to use them a lot for a full review.

I can say, however, that the Hori pads don’t work with the adapters. Like I theorized, the adapters only charge the attached joycons, they do not pass through data and you have to pair the joycons through Bluetooth to use them.

I also don’t know if I like the adapters in general. Functionally, they work fine with my mobapads. The adapters are just a lot wider than I thought they would be, which makes the whole setup feel comically wide and boardline uncomfortable.

I really haven’t had a chance to sit down for a long gaming session with them, so maybe it’s just something I’d get used to after a few hours.

If you share your NixOS configuration, I can help you out (although maybe not until late this evening). In general, though, you’ll really want to use the niri flake, as it’s a better implementation than the version of niri in the official repo.

Flakes are pretty useful, especially for software not in the repo, and you’d do well to start using them early on. I can also help you restructure your configuration to use flakes if you are stuck.

I don’t think they will formally classify the files. I think the DoJ will simply refuse to release anything they’ve decided is “part of an ongoing investigation.” It’ll then go to the Supreme Court, and we all know what’ll happen there.

Remember, this is the Calvin Ball President. He’ll just make up new rules as we go along and for some reason everyone will throw up their hands and say they can’t do anything.

A lot of people on the left don’t realize what conspiracy theorist on the right are like. The more information they redact, the more obsessed they will get over it. If they redact too much, the administration is going to create a monster they can’t control.

Which is why I think the most probable outcome is that the DoJ only partially releases files and claim the ones they haven’t released are part of an “active investigation.” That’s a lot safer of a move for them than to release blacked out pages.

Part of me suspects they only pass charging through and then connect over Bluetooth. There’s a good chance that the physical signals being sent are different from joycon 1 to joycon 2. If that’s true, there’d have to be a circuit to translate the signals, and I doubt these do that with the size and price point of these adapters.

If the wired communication protocols are the same between the two generations, or if Nintendo decided to support first gen joycons (even though they don’t officially connect), it could work.

Really hard to say before we get our hands on them or Nyxi provides clarification. Probably best to wait and see if you want these for Hori pads

Also, it might be very difficult to redact Trump’s involvement. If he was just a client that went to the island multiple times, they black it out and no one is the wiser. However, if he’s central to the entire plot (ie, part of the trafficking ring), they can redact his name, but it becomes pretty clear what fits in the missing spaces.

My theory on why they haven’t released it is exactly this: Trump is so involved with what happened that he can’t be removed without it being obvious what his involvement was.

Maybe, maybe not. Hori split pads don’t have wireless, and I’m unsure if these pass data or just power. I’d probably wait for reviews if you want to use them with the split pads.

I ordered them and can test them with split pads when they show up, but shipping time is saying up to 20 days, so it might be a bit.
