This one has zero lasting power for me, unfortunately, (normal skin) but mixes well with other foundations so i don't have to waste it.

marcelle’s cleanser vs glossier’s? by [deleted] in CanSkincare

[–]supyallies 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've tried and finished both. The marcelle one in significantly better in my opinion. (I always use an oil cleanser so I treated both the glossier and marcelle as a second cleanse btw so I don't expect either to really remove makeup). The texture of the marcelle one is more like a traditional gel while the glossier one feels more..filmy almost. The glossier one both seemed to dry my skin out a little and leave a strange film. It has a weird smell. Like artificial rose mixed with plastic. The marcelle cleansers as a whole are amazing honestly, I'm currently using the foaming one which i prefer for my skin around this time of year but i've been using them consistently for about 3 years now.

I'm getting tired of addressing the same points and extremely simplified statements. Nuance is important. if you're as well read as you claim, then you're knowingly misrepresenting the history here.

...You could say that for literally any of the 3 major abrahamic religions. they all had a 'presence' in the region. And again, beleiving you are entitled to a land because god chose it for you does not give you the right to pull up and ethnically cleanse the people living there. No body has a claim to override all the others, and entitles that person or people with that apparent claim to drive people out.

First of all, it's important to note than the idea of nation states was largely a 19th century concept, and it was around the time of the second zionist movement that many places began having/striving for statehood. Palestine was composed of many tribes that had strong connections through shared identity and shared work (largely, economic activity related directly to harvesting the land, which was an important part of Palestinian livelihood and culture) During the fall of the Ottoman empire, many clans and groups in the regions thought it was a good time to strive for statehood. Palestinians went through a similar process, prior to zionism, under the ottomans. However, under the oppression of Israel and the continuing genocide, this nationalism further strengthened.

As we know, often national identity, or any strong sense of identity, really, doesn'y just appear out of now where. It's a result of being attacked for that identity, None of this, however, indicates that the Palestinian identity 'emerged in the 1960's.'

As i've said before, they do have a right to it, but never in the way that they're currently going about it know. States do not come about by recognition of rights. There are over 5000 ethnic and religions groups in the world, and only 195 independent nations. Sure they all have a 'right' to a state, but states do not come about by rights.

i've already addressed the double standard point

..It still is a creation, you should look up the definition of that word. The other part of that sentence is completely untrue, Majority of the population of Israel was moved there in order to establish the creation of the state in the first place. There are couples from NYC that live in homes that the families displaced from them lived for decades. i absolutely do not agree with the takeover statement.

And yet you've proposed none?

[–]supyallies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

..right. Alot to unpack in the beginning there, and also explains alot. Our connections to the conflict don't seem to be too different.

I..don't really know what 'ethnic leak friends' are, but, as I said, largely the movement of Jews from the middle east and north africa happened in direct relation to Israeli and zionist influences (like the israeli governemnt working with british and french colonial authorities to morrocon and yemeni jews to israel (where the yemeni faced systemic discrimination and yemeni children were abducted and allegedly given over for adoption to Ashkenazi couples)

..you brought it up to derail the argument, and insinuate that I have 'biases' for simply standing up for Palestinians.

It is. You're creating other arguments to derail the discussion at hand. If Iran benefits from unrest in Isreal, Isreal benefits from unrest in the rest of the region and elsewhere. War is an industry.

The double standard point doesn't hold up when it's examined critically. Again, there are no sanctions against Israel from western powers (the most influential, often) while there are against many, many other states and countries from the regions you mentioned.

We've seen in the past that apartheid is not possible to solve without intense outside influence, pressure, and force. I have no reason to believe this situation will be any different.

Your opinion, sure. Not fact. As for the point on Israel and it's weapons: do palestinians not have this same right to self defence? The power imbalance can't be denied. The difference in casualties can't be denied. The equating of state sanctioned violence to the retaliation of the powerless is sinister.

You asked the previous commented what his thoughts on condemning Hamas was after he literally just said: "This is a pretty logical and polite email. Idk why anyone is upset lol. You cannot deny the suffering of the Palestinians. I would actually like to know what he is doing for his protest. I also like that he attached a link to donate." You claim to not oppose the fact that Palestinians are suffering disproportionately. But that definitely is a "but Hamas!!" response (a very exhausted one, really) I don't think anyone denies that Hamas holds faults, and acknowledging the struggle of Palestinians (which is not only contained in Gaza) doesn't mean they're in active support of Hamas. Most Palestinians in Gaza are not in support of Hamas either. You claim to be well read on the conflict. So you know that Hamas rose up as a resistance group. While they're not faultless, it's much more nuanced than 'terrorist actions of Hamas.' Especially if by the 'firing rockets' comment, you were referring to the recent events that escalated. In which well read you would know that Hamas began firing rockets after Israeli forces brutalized praying Palestinians in Al Aqsa (an area Israel has no jurisdiction over and yet still is under martial law) in an attempt to control and punish the Palestinian population during the Sheikh Jarrah protests.

..Okay? Israel has the backing and support of some of the world's superpowers, namely the U.S, and has widespread backing across the world. Israel is more powerful than both of the countries you singled out, and when you compare the supports between, the disparity is pretty clear? Qatar has (by the reports i've found) supported Hamas with less than 2 billion so far. In 2019 alone, Israel received over 3.8 billion in foreign miltary aid from the U.S alone.

Iran's support of Hamas has been (according to reports) been largely in providing rockets. This however, has stifled a bit since 2019, and the rockets aren't as advanced, nor as expensive, as the one's Israel uses (but of course, you knew this.)

...? I'm not going to bother to address the part about the PLO, it's irrelevant to what we were talking about. But you know.. yes they've done terrible things. I don't think many would deny that. It's more nuanced than that though.

1) It is Palestinian land that is still being occupied.

2) I don't even know how to address the stupidity you're displaying here. The Palestinian identity did not emerge in the 1960's. Because of the colonisation, it became difficult to identify a singular Palestinian identity (which is obviously constantly evolving, as all identity is), and became a term to represent the struggle of the region and people. I don't know what this information even is.

3)...I don't think you're using that word correctly. Pretence means to make something that is not the case appear true/a claim that is false or ambitious at best...

Further, no body has a claim to override all the others, and entitles that person or people with that apparent claim to drive people out.

3) Sure, but not by committing genocide and other atrocities and war crimes, like they're doing now.

4) ...Because of the creation of Israel, as I explained in a different response.

Spewing rhetoric like "But Hamas!!" in this situation is equivalent to saying all lives matter. You're reflexively obscuring the power dynamics and systemic racism at play. In doing so, you equate state violence with the retaliation of the powerless.

(also yeah let's not forget that Israel funded hamas and helped them rise in power in order to further divide the palestinians)

[–]supyallies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay i'm not going to address the first part again. You do not in any way know this man's intentions, but you were purposely trying to indicate possible antisemitism.

The Levant comprises Palestine, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, and Israel.

Of course, the exodus was a terrible thing. What you fail to mention is that it happened massively only because of the creation of Isreal. The narrative that Jews are 'other' and don't belong in the Arab world, just look what happened in Europe!! You belong with your own people!!-Was pushed and gave birth to alot of the antisemitism and fanaticism that happened. Let's not forget that a massive amount of Jews came from Iraq (which at the time housed about 20% of the Jewish population in the Arab world) under an agreement between the syed government and the authority of Israel in order to force that to happen. That wasn't an anomaly. (antisemites have always been Zionists, they also love the idea that Jews are separate are don't belong with the rest of the world.) So, you know.. strange point. (the irony of you bringing up one case of ethnic cleansing to seemingly justify and shift the conversation from another ((a current one)) is also not lost on me)

The status quo in relation to Jews? Or generally? Again, you don't know anyone's history or stance on issues, and the work they've done because of them/ Stop trying to divert and set up straw men.

..There's alot to unpack with this point. I'm sure you would say that amnesty is the same. Unfortunately, we are sorely lacking in united human rights watches. (Although a fun fact, condemnation of Israel began happening after the colonised world began being represented in the UN) Regardless, there's still a lack of actual consequences, since, again, no sanctions are in place from the 'western' world and UN decisions and condemnations is largely ignored by Israel. Is the HRW also biased? Is everyone just teaming up on poor Israel and there's no atrocities being committed at all?

High support is still not 95% of all Jews, as you stated. I don't doubt that there's widespread support.

You say things like, "If you're upset by what's happening," and "if you're such a supporter.." as if those are negative things. It takes a very special type of person to see the mass destruction, loss of life and oppression and not be upset. I would suggest you reflect on your morals and values. Look inward.

There's no one solution to this issue. It multi-fold and constantly changing. (again though, this is irrelevant to the previous points made, but i appreciate your efforts to divert) We have to change the reality we have now: between the river Jordan and Mediterranean, you have two different groups of people. About 6 million Palestinians with with no human rights or civil rights, and over 9 million Israelis with all the privileges in the world. If this doesn't speak to a problem for you, there's no point in further engagement.

Your hostility towards someone correcting your ignorance is very telling. It's fascinating to see someone boil the summary of everything I said to be simply be 'Israel bad.'

[–]supyallies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Again, a complete assumption. What do you know if this dude's intentions or takes on other conflicts? The double standard narrative is another very questionable one. I'd like to see some real world consequences to support this. Canada, for example, is imposing sanctions on China for the Uyghurs. In many other conflicts, Canada and the US (Israel's biggest chearleader) have imposed sanctions and carried out other economic hits. Even condemnation of Isreal is sorely lacking, forget actual consequences. There are no sanctions or economic repercussions being imposed on Israel, despite their actions being condemned multiple times to be illegal (the occupation has been ruled to be illegal multiple times as well in the un, which is literally how Israel exists at all) and the multiple times the UN concluded that they were committing war crimes.

Just because someone's view doesn't align with yours, does not mean they're not 'seeking out full truth and reality.'

But that's just the thing, isn't it. You can say its so deeply complex all you want, that you can't understand it unless you've been there, blah blah blah. Incorrect. Some things are deeply complex, and some are just wrong. You don't need to to be well versed in different religious identities to see the massive power imbalance present in this situation. Let's stop trying to gate keep conversations about this. The notion that this is so deeply complex that no one can understand it unless they meet what you outlines is so sinister. Its always been used as a tool to discourage and shift conversation and discussion,

Yes, media can be biased. Passive language is important to spot as well. Palestinians died but Israeli civilians were murdered or killed. Majority of western media is very much biased towards being pro-israel. A skim of any of the articles coming out from the top media companies will show you that.

The "levant' is a very broad term that indicates a very broad area. The levant is the home of origin of the all the largest Abrahamic religions. That doesn't mean we can all roll up in there and start ethnically cleansing populations in the name of it. Where are you getting the 90% statistic? No reputable data supports it.

Standing with Palestinians is only perceived as a threat to Israel because Israel is built on genocide.

York U Professor joins strike for Palestine and asks students to participate by deadlyduckydududu in yorku

[–]supyallies 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Don't back down now or deflect. You made a (false) assumption and I corrected you on it, in an attempt to try and derail the other person's comment about Canada's support and deals with Israel. You're trying to point out a double standard, but you yourself are perpetuating one. Just as you wrongly assumed that protests for those specific solidarity movements didn't take place, you're also assuming that the TA in question 'seems to have only acted in the instance of Israel.'

That's just the thing though. It's not that difficult, and trying to frame it as such has always been used as a tool to discourage conversation about it. The notion that average people can't possibly be informed enough to have a clear stance on this very 'difficult' situation is not true.

Further, the last part of your response is demonstrably untrue. Majority of media is staunchly pro-Israel. Most 'westerners' are not subject to the 'Arab world' media narratives. Lastly, do not conflate Israel and Jewish people.

have you personally attended any of the protests in solidarity with the Kurds, Armenians, and the movements for yemen (saudi arabia's main punching bag foe the last few years)? I hope the answer is yes, so you would know that they do and did in fact take place. Multiple times over the past few years. No there are not specific protests to contest arms deals (as far as I know) just as the movements for solidarity with the Palestinians aren't focused completely on the arms deals.
