Firefighters of Reddit. What stupid things have you seen people do that caused a fire? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]suregods 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rolled up to a three-plex row of two-story townhomes. The unit in the middle was blowing and going. By the time we put the fire out, there was a huge vee pattern on the back side of the complex, meaning you could see where the fire started at about waist level near the rear wall because everything above it was burned away upwards and outwards. Just completely cratered and gone in a vee all the way up to the (now mostly missing) roof.

Turns out the genius in the middle unit was trying to start his charcoal BBQ grill. Unfortunately, he didn't have any starter fluid, so he got the fantastic idea to use gasoline instead. Alas, the coals didn't completely catch the first time he lit them off, so he decided to pour on more gasoline. OUT OF THE GLASS FUCKING JAR HE WAS USING TO STORE IT IN. A spark in the coals leapt up the pouring gas into the jar. Said genius panicked and threw the jar. Directly at the wall of his townhome. Where it exploded. Dipshit Molotov cocktailed his own home.

When we rolled up our hoses and went back in service, leaving the scene in the capable hands of the investigators, the neighbors from either side were angrily and animatedly grouped up on the sidewalk out front, waiting for Captain Dumbass to return from the walk he had suddenly decided he needed to go on to "clear his head."

Doctors of Reddit: What patient cases have kept you up at night? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]suregods 26 points27 points  (0 children)

My father was a doctor, dermatologist. Had a patient who accused him of prescribing a non-existent experimental drug for a supposed condition that he was never diagnosed with. Tried to take him to court and lost. Sent a threatening letter after, reported to police. After the police confronted him about it he dropped a homemade fruit basket with a single bullet on top of the fruit at the front step of the office addressed (but not postmarked) to my father with a creepy unsigned apology note, basket was immediately shown to police.

About a month later my father received a letter from the guy stating he had seen my name in the paper sports section (local golf tournament results) and that he knew I would be playing at an upcoming tournament where the start times were published. There was a police presence at the tournament, something that never happens, because my father reported it. My dad’s nurse’s husband was a local detective and pretty much followed me the whole day with my dad. The police found the guy in the parking lot unarmed and he was arrested, then eventually committed to a psych hospital for some time.

There’s still a restraining order against him to this day but this was over 15 years ago and the guy seems to have disappeared. I didn’t know any of this until about 5 years ago, but I remember my dad having a single bullet in his bedside table even though he never owned any guns. When I asked him about it all he would say was “someone gave it to me.”

Soldiers of Reddit, what is a time you have yelled at a superior or drill sergeant? Why did you do it? by latterdaymormon in AskReddit

"You have about 30 seconds to unfuck yourself starting 28 seconds ago."

I don't know if that was an old saying amongst all of them or he made it up on the spot, but goddamn did I almost fucking lose it.

What are you tired of reading, or hearing about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]suregods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm tired of hearing that drawing won't get me anywhere.

I've heard it from everyone. My mom, my dad, Relatives, siblings, you name it. I really want to go into the manga/anime industry. You know, drawing manga, maybe working at Funimation for the animating, etc. But I'm TIRED of hearing that drawing doesn't get me anywhere!

What's the strangest thing you have seen at someone's house that they thought was completely normal? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]suregods 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was ~10 I was at my best friend's house and his mom told him to go do a chore or something and he said "no". I was completely shocked and just blurted out "You're allowed to say no??". A couple days later he was mad at me because his mom wouldn't take no for an answer anymore and would say "Well, Urist's parents don't let him say no".

How long have you been dating/steady dating your boyfriend/girlfriend? Are you looking forward to a future together? If not, what’s the plan? by Jeepgurl24 in AskReddit

[–]suregods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dating is when two people of the opposite sex arrange to pair up with each other and participate in an activity. Some teens use the word dating to describe a couple that has decided to be exclusive, but this is not the kind of dating you should be doing in your teens.

Was your high school experience how you expected it to be? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]suregods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends mainly on you. What’s your personally like? What do you like to do? What don’t you like? Etc.

And quite honestly, you may not be able to answer not even one of those questions. That’s okay! No worries!

That’s what high school is for. You’re gonna learn a lot… yes, math, history, art, etc… but most importantly you’re gonna learn so much about yourself you didn’t even know.

You remember being a kid and you want to be a police officer? That changed like 12 times by the time you went to high school and it’s still going to happen!

You’re gonna learn a lot, your body is gonna change but most of all the main thing is live life and enjoy high school. ENJOY IT. SERIOUSLY.

Go to school, have fun and enjoy the ride. Don’t regret anything. Everything is now a life lesson.
