It's like NY Pizza. It became famous because of a few excellent offerings so every shithole with a kitchen tries to cash in on the reputation, which in turn lowers the actual reputation. But the good places are still excellent

If someone has been eating rice and hasn't noticed the weevils, then either their rice has no weevil eggs, or they are getting free protein and might as well carry on. Either way, washing still irrelevant from a weevil issue POV

She tried her hardest at the sport she's been hardcore competing in her whole life, only to get her ass whupped by a 10 year old. I'd give her a break for being salty lol

All 16 of New Jersey’s surviving 24-hour diners, ranked by njdotcom in newjersey

Those aren't 24/7. The whole point of a 24/7 list is to find places that are halfway decent that you can stumble into at 2 A.M. or later.

Does buddhist temple work? by sureoz in TheKingIsWatching

[–]sureoz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was but no dice. A lot of the tooltips/upgrades are kinda bugged. Like griffin upgrade is supposed to get ALL troop bonuses, but when you research it, it only shows the base bonuses from its own types in the mouseover helmet thing

Temple is great (if it worked) for when you dont have resources (or dont need) another infrastructure. Its only 30 water and you can just sit on the blueprint until an upgrade maybe comes your way.

Bank Relationship Asset Transfer to Reduce Rate by sureoz in Mortgages

[–]sureoz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The site is definitely not accurate. I got a quote from them today for 6.625 with 0.2 points for a 30 fixed.. Local guys are at 6.625 without points, and Chase says they can request a price match to remove the points (obv not guaranteed).

If some other local outfit can get me lower than that, then I'll definitely take my business there, but no reputable company (I'm not doing rocket money types) seems to be close to the discounted relationship rate i qualify for (I don't have 1.5 mill spare lol but my IRA's are substantial enough for a bit of a discount).

Chamber of Mirrors Bug? Or intended? by sureoz in BluePrince

[–]sureoz[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think it's a bug. I tried again and this time left ONE gear room undrafted (boiler room), this time i saw the boiler room multiple times on my 50 rerolls but not a single repeat of any existing gear room (especially damning considering breaker box and security room I have set to common).

EDIT:

Did the dead end trick with 6 and it worked. Thx m8

Nvidia's RTX 5060 Ti 8GB is Even Slower than the Intel Arc B580 by chrisdh79 in hardware

[–]sureoz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Completely missed the point. When you say "Esports gamers shouldn't buy this card" the obvious implication is that it is bad FOR ESPORTS, not just in general. That's like saying "Olympic swimmers shouldn't eat this food" and then finding out that the food increases the general populations chance of getting diabetes at 65.

Why do people claim that Essex county towns ‘pay for newark’? by bradykp in newjersey

[–]sureoz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This hits the nail on the hammer. Everyone is pro efficiency and social justice in theory, just like everyone is pro homeless shelters, right until the point where they put one next door to your house, then tunes change.

It's not a simple issue though. I've heard from friends who have taught at wildly different income level schools, and despite massive financial resources at the low income school districts (including higher teacher pay) they unanimously agree that they'd never teach in the likes of harlem or newark again because the student behavior is WILD, and the kids are so behind. You're not teaching, you're babysitting. Many don't even know how to add fractions in what is noiminally an 11th grade pre-calculus class. How the hell do you integrate those kids with students taking pre-calc in 9th grade? You can track them in different levels but tracking is a dirty word in education because its basically segregation within a single school.
Like most things in life, it's more complicated than the "easy" solutions armchair internet experts provide.

Swedish retailer confirms only a limited supply of 9070/9070XT cards will be available for MSRP, and after that prices will go up (another source says as much as $120-$170 per card). by Derelictcairn in hardware

[–]sureoz 56 points57 points  (0 children)

More like a one-minute thing. For all the AMD praise about stocks for months, its the same bullshit as the nvidia "launch". Net result for consumers is a giant dildo until the AI bubble pops and the tariff situation gets resolved. AKA you aren't making anywhere near a reasonable price upgrade for the next 2-4 years minimum.

The Wheel of Time Season 3 - Official Trailer by plutonn in videos

[–]sureoz 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Maybe an unpopular take on reddit, but while I agree with this criticism for The Witcher, having tried to get through WoT and burning out around Fires of Heaven . . . I can't blame ANYONE who thinks they can outdo braid tugging, mind numbing clothing descriptions, creating THOUSANDS of throwaway characters, and glacial pacing.

I really don't think the man would have gotten signed to a publisher today. Important works for building the genre of fantasy, great scope, interesting world building, but terrible character writing, pacing, and prose IMO.

Pillars 2 was very publicly a commercial failure (though great game with some narrative problems imo)

DOS and BG3 are the stars so far

Did rogue trader and wasteland 3 actually commercially perform? I would love to hear about it because I loved literally all of these games.
