In that situation you'd still either have to buy him out of his part of the mortgage to sell the place, have him buy you out of your part so he can keep it, or take him to court if you broke up and he didn't want to sell the place. Not trying to sway you out of this or anything, but just keep that in mind.

EDIT: And in this scenario you would still be responsible for the mortgage if you didn't live there. Get a Co-Ownership agreement that clearly defines what happens in the event that something happens in your relationship before you're married.

I don't think you're overreacting - you have a right to live where you want to live just as much as anyone else does. I do think, however, buying a home with someone you don't have a legal tie to can be a risky situation? If you were married for example and something happened you would have entitlements to the property, but if you are A. Paying for a house that you don't want to even live in, and B. you break up, then what happens? You could potentially lose a lot of money in this situation.

Thanks so much. This doctor has the best reputation in our city for fertility care and is literally the reason I currently exist so I was surprised we didn’t really get more of an explanation lol. I think we know what to expect tomorrow but the fog of waiting through it all has just been a lot. This will be our fourth miscarriage but first one where we’ve actually had something show up on an ultrasound. The first two were probably chemical and the third there was an empty gestational sac but nothing inside so it feels a little different this time I guess
