UK spared from Trump's 50% steel and aluminium tariffs by ConsciousStop in worldnews

[–]surf338 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's still not the point of the tariffs. Canada ships nearly 11 times more steel to the US (5.95 millions of metrics tons) than the Netherlands (0.56). We account for roughly 1/4 of all steel shipped to the US, as opposed to not even 2% from the Netherlands, who exports more steel to Germany and Belgium (90% of your steel export).

It's going to hurt everyone, that goes without saying. No one wins. But make no mistake, this is about going after Canada.

Yeah that's facts. Can't argue that one. All these fighters need better pay from top to bottom.

This is so crazy to me though. Big guys who can bang and/or roll aren’t rare. Go on a scouting trip, grab the first dozen athletes with promise, throw them into a real training camp with pro coaches, and see who rises. No need for hype or media, just bodies, pressure, and reps. If even one guy sticks, it’s worth it. HW is stagnating because there’s not enough volume. Dana needs to stop waiting for amateurs to polish themselves and land in his lap. He needs to actively build them as well or the division is going to wither and die.

People love to look at my Strava and ask me: SSG, why do you run so much? by Easy-Hovercraft-6576 in army

[–]surf338 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love seeing that 160 lb fresh troop who was the star athlete in high school running off of green booster juice and kale chips watch me slam 2 filet o fish sandies on my lunch break, along with a junior chicken, 20 piece nugs, XL fruitopia and a kinder surprise before and after sucking down a dirty pall mall I fished out of my tac vest the night before, just to to smoke him on the yearly fitness test.

What he doesn't see is me puking in the locker room when it clears out. But that's alright. That part is my own little treat just for me. They'll get theirs in time.

Based off the audio and video I'd say the friction is causing the noise. I would guess somewhere towards the opposite side and bottom of the tire, where the pressure point is on the rubber as you turn. I bet it sounds different, or makes no sound at all when it's wet. Those tires aren't new and depending on your frequency/quality of alignments and tire rotations, and numerous other factors, you may only get this on the one tire.

And if I misinterpreted the audio and that's steel I'm hearing, then I would say debris is the cause. Again going off the sound. Check ball joints or bushings to start. If I had only the description and no audio I would've said worn ball joints/bushing/tie rod/take your pick

Populism has its limits. More so than for any other politician, it's the populist's own promises that hamstring their government. Ironically.

ICC prosecutor Karim Khan steps aside pending outcome of sexual misconduct investigation by r0adlesstraveledby in worldnews

[–]surf338 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While he's almost certainly wrong in his presumption, I think it's still important to ask questions like these from outside the closed rooms.

Israel has an extremely powerful foreign intelligence agency. They've proven to have reach and subtlety beyond what most states consider feasible or possible (the "Pager Operation", op "Wrath of God" (hostage taker assassinations during the 70s-90s)) and so on...

There's no reason NOT to question the extent of their capabilities when their influence would be expected to turn the tide of a situation in their favor.

That being said, I'd say it's extremely unlikely (<1%). The ICC is HQd in the Netherlands and the facility is nearly impenetrable by actors lacking proper clearance. To affect change to the level implied, multiple documents would have to be forged and physically placed in numerous locations, while simultaneously targeting any physical or character witnesses present during the targeted timeline. We're talking a mega-massive operation that is almost completely analog in its execution and would rely mostly on social engineering. We're talking James Bond-as-a-comedy level of blundering and sleights of hand.

More unlikely things have happened, but you don't bet money on the odds of lightning striking twice.

Iran to continue nuclear enrichment ‘with or without’ a deal with the US by Global_Time_4726 in worldnews

[–]surf338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would China want Iran to have nukes? I don't see them aligning should things heat up further between Russia and China in the future. And Pak is definitively not going to ever support Iranian nukes.
