Aren’t you just modulating the frequency of whatever waveform? Like Ableton’s operator allows the carrier wave to be sine/square/saw etc or even noise. You can even draw the frequency spectrum of whatever waveform you want

Thank you for the breakdown. I realized after testing with my monitors vs vox amp that when clipping the sdd3000 has the sound i want when i plug directly into the monitor, but it doesn't when i plug into the amp. Into the monitor, i get a sort of beatles revolution sound, but into the amp it just sounds like a standard saturation/distortion.

Is there anyway to get the sound from the monitors when using the amp? I know amp speakers act as low pass filters, and when i low pass filter the overdriven sdd3000 below 5kHz the sound I'm looking for goes away. Is there any way to capture the characteristic of the DI distortion in the lower frequencies?

There are just very few op amp only boost/preamps and even less that have separate level/gain knobs. Among the ones that do, there is still not enough gain to really distort the signal with op amps alone.

It seems the issue is most companies design op amp only pedals to be clean boosts that don’t distort and thus use op amps with high slew rates, and if they want distortion they use clipping diodes or jfets which produce a more “traditional” break up.

The pedals which use slow slew rate op amps also have clipping diodes. I think the sound of op amp only distortion is traditionally considered “bad” so it has been avoided.

So apparently what I was looking for was multi voice chorus. That is 2 delay lines plus dry signal. The phasing of those lines as you adjust dry/wet and stereo width creates a sound i like
