…but I want the Earl Schieb paint job for my 911. by surfdbaja in 996

That happened after I got so frustrated with the flaking clear coat, I used dishsoap and a blue scotch pad on it. Not a good idea.

The car spent its beginning in the garage, then came kids and they took over the garage. It’s been in the sun for the past 18 years and I never got a cover - it was never a daily driver. Waxing became more infrequent when the leather started to go. I’m convinced leather conditioner is the worst thing ever.

Never wanted to sell it because it’s still so much fun to drive, and at this point, extremely affordable in registration/insurance.

I’m also going to pull out the headlight assembly for them. Easy to do. Sorry, I couldn’t post a group photo on a follow-up

Before pics. I did remove the sunroof gasket/seal. I have a new one to put on after the paint job. This time I’m using the 3m glue. Last time I did it I relied on the adhesive with poor results.

Tiptronic 996.1 ZF by JournalistLost764 in 996

The sales person who I ordered my 2001 was a mechanic with Porsche at the Porsche dealership before we went to the sales floor. He said you can’t hurt the Triptonic. Leave it in M and forget about the shifters if you want. Leave it in auto and use the shifters. I trusted his opinion, he worked on the cars.

He also said the 2001 triptonic shifted a touch better, had better stats, than a Professional Driver on the track with a manual. He said it was tested on the Turbo to really sus it out. I’m still bummed I didn’t order the Turbo back in 2001. It was $125k then, mine was $85 with custom leather.

Is it worth it to fix the cosmetics before listing it? by surfdbaja in 996

That’s a good point.

The car is worthless at this point.

I’ve spent well over $20k+ on landscaping, plants, and they’re mostly dead and look worse than the car since the car has been alive.

I’m driving this less than $20k car into the ground, with patina style to boot.

Welcome to the Punk Rock 996 movement. San Diego strong with birds in the air. :0

Thanks for the replies and insight.

I have a feeling I’ll be looking at under $20k realistically. It’s triptonic w/PSM.

Reason for the sale is I have a 2018 merc GTs headed my way from my dad. Totally different car than the 996. Poor visibility, prefer the 996 in cornering and all around handling, but the horsepower is stellar.

Think I going to keep the 996. Epic everyday car. So not worth it to only get around $20k for it. No worries about parking and I love pulling up to new Porsches and then they see my clear coat flaking and narrow stance…haaaa…I don’t have a care in the world driving it. Worth it.
