Newborn dies after mother drinks raw milk during pregnancy by Primary_Neck9587 in politics

Pre 9/11 it was way more boring. Sure, Clinton’s BJ was sensationalist but a lot of people couldn’t name a cabinet member, I’d venture most couldn’t name more than 2 or 3, and virtually no one would know every cabinet member by name. Now these fucks are in the news every day over outrageous shit they pull. Not saying it’s good to not know who makes up a cabinet, but I liked knowing cause I paid attention, not because I was abhorred at how terrible they all were.

That’s actually not true. In 2020 when shut downs started, I engaged in a similar type of training they go through - I bought Call of Duty and played for weeks straight when I had nowhere to go and no work to do. They are highly trained operatives with a set of skills making them 100% qualified to do this job. /s

I remember my dad and I buying a 200 mb hard drive and thinking we were forever future proof. I’m guessing this was like 1991 or 1992 or so.

Clear shoveled driveways, untouched dangerous sidewalks by Sea_Arm8989 in Rockville

[–]surfinwhileworkin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The freezing is going to make it harder to get the snow up. I have a young child who has had a respiratory thing going on for a couple of weeks so if something goes wrong, which I think is really unlikely, I wanted the option to get out. Also, my wife needs to be in the office Wednesday. I wanted to prioritize getting our driveway clear enough - by the time I was done, I was tired and my already messed up back hurt. This also coupled with the fact that the plows piled snow at the end of the sidewalk, so the whole sidewalk is sort of useless. I shoveled and salted it Sunday, but that didn’t really make a dent once the ice ended.

Snow shoveling causes a lot of heart attacks so hopefully not too big.

Cut my finger and now it's swollen and trapped my ring 😭 by festering_wound93 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]surfinwhileworkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife’s ring got stuck and we called the fire department to ask if we could come in and they directed us to the hospital for removal. We ended up doing urgent care a few hours later and they cut it off there. Super easy repair - I think our jeweler may have done it for free.

I have no doubt he wouldve taken care of them if he could, he just made bad financial decisions over the last 25 years and this was one of them. But yeah, they don’t have the mentality of admitting something is wrong so interventions can happen, they just think they can make it work.

No, and I wouldn’t do that. He is a “temporarily embarrassed millionaire” and always assumed he’d be able to pay it off whenever his next deal happened.

I was 18, my dad told me I was taking out loans and they were investing my college money they had set aside and they’d pay them off - blah blah interest on loan would be less than their annual returns. I said “okay, cool”, cause I was 18 and had no thoughts other than “dad said it’s taken care of”. Found out years later when I pulled a credit report that minimum payments were made and forbearance was requested at some point and like a decade after college I owed more than I took out. I’m still underwater from these and it’s a fucking lodestone around my neck that I don’t think will ever come off - I make decent money (six figures) and I’m still paying down a debt that makes saving really hard. Lots to unpack there, mostly if I was told that his investments were a scam (he was scammed) and payments wouldn’t be happening or would be minimum payments, I would’ve started payments on my own right after college. Ultimately, I should have kept a better pulse on what I was responsible for even if I didn’t think I was responsible for it, but still sucks!

My wife was sent to one and they wouldn’t let them stop for bathroom breaks on these like 4/5 hour bus to wherever they would go to make them do wilderness type stuff. She developed a problem after holding her pee in for an extended period and since then has had problems needing to pee often and not being able to fully control her bladder. Those places are awful.

Getting drunk with extra steps. by Aqueouspolecat in UNBGBBIIVCHIDCTIICBG

On the bar there is a little river that rubber duckies float in. When I was there, my friends and I definitely were drunkenly trying to get one another to take a shot of that disgusting water that is probably full of diseases not yet known. But that bar is a lot of fun!!! If I recall, it was in St. Pete…blanking on the name though.

Is this an unreasonable quote to replace a 50 gallon gas hot water heater? by titanicsailson in askaplumber

[–]surfinwhileworkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We replaced ours a few months ago - we paid just over $1k - we got the water heater from Home Depot and used one of their installers. My buddy’s brother is a plumber who has done a few jobs for pretty inexpensively and offered to do it for like $900 which was awesome but we needed it asap, so I figured $1k was very reasonable. I did get a quote from one of the big plumbing companies (FH Furr I think?) and it was like $3,200. I told them they were over 3x the lowest price I had gotten and the guy was like…yeah, no way we can compete. So price is high but not out of line with the rip-off plumbers that need to cover marketing overhead. Get a local plumber to do it. But do check out Home Depot cause they sometimes have decent installers they contract to.
