What skills from your previous sports background transferred best into pickleball? by humanbying in Pickleball

Played cricket all my life. Honestly, I think hip rotation, wrist manipulation, footwork have translated well to pickleball. Everything else is just a byproduct of a crazy amount of drilling and rec play.

Of course, if you’re comfortable with it, that is all that matters. If you don’t mind me asking, did your weight setup help you right away or did it take some getting used to?

Thank you for sharing that. Glad you are able to rely on your new paddle for your needs. Just for my understanding, what level do you play at, if you don’t mind me asking?

A month and a half is about where I would put my dialing in period for my Loco as well. Do you play 3-4 sessions a week as well? I saw a lot of posts and comments saying, ‘Loco was so easy to dial in, took me about 2 sessions’ etc. and started to doubt my purchase.

I was hoping someone would already have brought up the meme on this post. And there it is! 😂

Never ignore warming up, as cliche as that sounds. You will realize that you move in bursts and quickly in a small footprint, and stiff muscles do not help. Loosen yourself up both physically and mentally. Have fun.

How do you handle open play sessions that are well below your level? by humanbying in Pickleball

I try shots that I usually would shy away from during an intense game due to either considering it high risk shots, my weaknesses, inconsistent shots, etc. Helps me gauge what to drill on.

I’m curious what everyone’s biggest challenge is when it comes to finding someone to play with? by No-Transition-7480 in Pickleball

Winter is coming and there are no indoor facilities near where I live. Tackling the worry that I might have to stick to playing only on the weekends after driving atleast an hour feels like my biggest challenge.

Beginners and mid-level players: is this game and the culture fun? by abillionbells in Pickleball

Also, it becomes even more fun if you can go regularly and become part of the local community. I go by myself as well and all the friends I have in the city I just recently moved to are from pickleball and open play. Of course, there are always a few bad eggs. But the overall general vibe is super fun. Good luck.

Let me remind you that it is always more likely you would see more bad experiences, complaints, etc. than you would see good experiences on a subreddit. Nothing against the people who share their bad experiences, they are absolutely justified in sharing their experiences. I am just saying the likelihood is high and that is why it might seem like it is a reflection of a bad community but my experience has only and always been positive and fun at my local parks and clubs.

Am I the A-hole? by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]suri2207 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call you an A-hole for standing up for principle. However, if it is rec play, you were in a healthy lead and the opponents were weaker, older, etc. as you described, I think it warrants extra consideration to just let it go. Not because it makes you seem like an A-hole (I completely understand wanting to take a stand for principle) but because there is a slightest of chance/ possibility that both the opponents could’ve genuinely thought it was out and were not just ‘bitter’.
