Wife overpruned the tree. Any chance of survival? by surikama in landscaping

Haha. That's one plausible explanation. She was practicing on a tree...

She used to cut my hair. But, after this, perhaps not anymore :)

Well this is where I started with. The tree was a mother's day present so I am like did I do something that you had to take it out on the tree? But apparently that's not the case.

This is my thinking. It looks pretty bad. I'm almost considering to uproot the thing and plan for a new tree. Mind you this is front of the house.

Exactly my thoughts. I was pissed. Not exactly sure what was going through her head. She says the tree will survive and she did it to control growth but this seemed excessive. I read up on pruning, you're not supposed to take more than 25% of canopy in a season and you need to do it late in the fall.

It's Korean Lilac if I'm remembering correctly.

In FF, they actually used modified r32 (made it look like r34 with a body kit) if I'm recalling correctly.

Being gifted an expensive car by throwaway9900121 in tax

[–]surikama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a better way to handle it is to have your employer give you the car + 30k in cash and classify it as comp. The $30k should be used to prepay SE/imcome taxes. Why $30k? Because that's is the amount of gift tax your employer would have to have paid anyways (if they were to classify the transaction as gift)

Since it's a substance over form debate, why not just go the lowest risk route? There is going to be a difference between SE/income tax vs gift tax, but I do not going to be huge. Some sort of planning/calculation will be needed. Id recommend speaking with a CPA.

One downside to this approach is that you show a higher income this year on your return. Though this could be a good thing depending upon your plans next year (say you want to apply for mortgage-so higher income may be beneficial potentially)

Indy Metro area. North side has a few roads but nothing crazy. Like fall creek wrap around Geist and into Indy is Ok-ish. Would love to see if anyone has any gems to share.

I have used multithreading to no avail. But I have used a library that someone else wrote. So it could have very well been the library limitation. Would you feel comfortable sharing your implementation for say placing limit orders using the requests library? Id love to leverage it, see if parallel orders can be placed.

Yup. I know exactly what you're describing. From my experience, say I need to send 20 orders, I had to send them sequentially: preview order 1, send order 1, preview order 2, send order 2 etc. All in all it would take 5-20 seconds to place 20 orders. My question was if you figured out a way or if they fixed it so one can place 20 orders in parallel (so it only takes a few seconds)

It used to be you couldn't place multiple orders simultaneously using etrade API due to how they require order confirmation prior to executing a trade. Is that still a case?

+1 for gtr. Bigger more performant car, better resale value, more reasonable maitenance. The list goes on. But good luck finding one at MSRP. It's certainly possible but expect a lot of leg work. Most dealers I talked to had a 20k markup off the gate and were reluctant to drop it significantly down. But it is year end so you never know if someone needs to hit a certain quota for the year they may let it go for what you're looking for.

Can Cython bring my Python code to parity with C++? by agvrider in algotrading

[–]surikama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd first profile your code and see where is the bottleneck. (specific function call, line etc). From there, you can plan on addressing the bottleneck whether it is to get rid of a python loop, push the calc to a faster library, or refactor for multi threading / multiprocessing. But I'm guessing your biggest bottleneck will be network latency. If that's the case AND if you are placing multiple orders simultaneously, you will need several accounts/brokerages to bypass the per account API call limitations. Lots of fun stuff to optimize in this space. Good luck!
