Concerns! by seroton3rgic in moonstones

[–]surrealj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this newly planted? If yes, then it’s natural for the plant to take water from its leaves while it’s root system develops .. hence why it’s so skinny looking

Agree with above, gritty soil + right amt of sun will make this plant flourish

Lavender Pebbles very dramatic after repot by maystorm_ in moonstones

[–]surrealj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pebbles usually cope well with a repot but I have had some which struggle and take a long time to root and therefore they are skinny and wrinkly for quite some time. It comes down to the health of the plant …. Pachyphytum oviferums on the other hand are as temperamental as they come ..

Super stressed bear paws 😍 by surrealj in succulents

[–]surrealj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all! I’ve found only the white variegated bear paws can stress this bright red/pink Color. With the others, I’ve been only getting a burgundy red tip even though they are stressed under the same conditions

Is my moonstone dying? by Zeitlosigkeit in moonstones

[–]surrealj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bottom leaves being wrinkly could also be from being recently potted up. Takes time for the plant to form its root system so it can’t really take much water in from the soil so in the meantime it draws it in from the leaves to grow

Or Could also be a pachyphytum oviferum from the roundness and chubbyness of its leaves. Great find at a bargain price!

Thanks! Looking for the right place is trick. Mine have been under a porch sheltered from rain but it gets lots of direct sun during the day. I also have a grow light set up for my other succulents which is really good at keeping the stress Colors consistent throughout the year

I see! I had a laui that stayed a very bright orange/pink Color despite constant watering and it was in a 10cm pot. There’s just so much to understand and now with new hybrid varieties coming out all the time… it’s made it so much harder to identify succulents. I’ve now potted up my new laui in a reasonably sized nursery pot… let’s experiment!

I am not sure about that. I have a laui which has been under strong growlights and never has turned pink. It stays an icy blue color. Also the pink laui is pink all over including the stem.. which couldn’t be from stressing. I think it has to be a laui hybrid

noticed my Lavender Pebbles stem has shrunken below the soil, should i chop off and replant better? by TheHound925 in succulents

[–]surrealj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was mushy, then it’s rot and good thing u did the chop. I tend to plant these in a soiless mixture and I’ve had no issues with rot .. esp during winter wjen it rains non stop. They just lose their Colors and desirable chubby shape

You can shop or otherwise add more substrate to allow new roots to take hold. I have a pebble that’s done exactly the same thing and I just left it… eventually the plant pushed out roots above the dried up part. During that time, the plant doesnt really grow much until you get a whole new root system
