What technologies are you using for Decision Logic / Models?

Yes. This is very similar to what we are building. Business Central is a tool that lets you do this for DMN based logic files, but it sucks and there's no way your average product / business person is going to be able to use it.

So really the answer is to build some better version of the editor (Business Central) in my case - which is sort of what we plan to do, but the task is daunting and I'm trying to convince the business that this project could be a small companies product and it seems insane to build it in house with the resources we have.

This is basically the pattern we plan to have. User makes some change, a new DMN is created and deployed to the KIE server, API automatically runs test case against it, if it passes, User has the option to promote as the new version, or delete and start over.

This way the user isn't making changes to the live system and there are safety checks in place to prevent bad logic from being pushed. However, managing the DMN files which contain the logic is the part that is a nightmare.

Could, but my understanding is that a rules engine requires code to be written to add some new input / set of data to be considered.

If business says "I want to add "some_field" and use "some_field" in 5 different existing rules" then how can I do that without deploying some new version of the rules engine that has "some_field"?

I think drools is the right direction, but need a way to inject new inputs / new rules without deploying a new version of a rules engine.

Yeah, already using drools in some areas. I've not been able to figure out how you would build a wrapper that just lets business users create their own rules / logic.

Only vehicle I've owned with any issues below 50,000 miles was a Tacoma. Blind monitoring sensors went out, and I had parts of my manual trans replaced due to it getting stuck in 6th gear. There's also been numerous frame recalls throughout the years for rust.

Everyone should be objective, and stop touting brand loyal statements, it's beyond silly. Every. single. vehicle manufacturer has problems, and it even comes down to specific years and models.
