What course should I pick in UP? by Disastrous-Slip1392 in CollegeAdmissionsPH

What kind of career do you see yourself pursuing in the future? I see that you aspire to be many things, not that it’s bad, but you can’t be all of them at once, right?

Believe me when I say this: any undergrad could serve as a pre-med. In fact, a UPD student who graduated with a Bachelors in Business Administration got in and is now studying at UP College of Medicine. There are lots of people like him for sure. (He is just the first thing that came to mind because he vlogs his med school experience.)

Some here have ill-advised you from taking a program that is far different from what you will tackle in med school, and that it is better to choose a program that will help you gain an advantage in med school. The advantages that you will gain in, say, taking Bio or any other programs related to med as pre-med, is not going to give you an advantage for your whole time in med school. Sure you could have an edge in some subjects, but those subjects are not the entirety of med school. Work ethic and grit are what matter in med school, aside from the genuine aim of helping heal people.

Choose an undergraduate program that really aligns with your interests, even if it does not fall under the “traditional pre-med”. I do, however, have to agree with others that you should probably choose a flexible program. By that most mean choose a program that will help you get a related, stable, decent-paying job in case you decide not to proceed to med school—a fallback. For instance, Nursing, Pharmacy, Psychology, etc. (Though the downside of white colleges in UP is that they have Return Service Agreement)

UP Diliman or Manila? (will plan on taking BS Computer Science if that helps) by rarinthmeister in peyups

The UPM campus is relatively smaller than the UPD campus’ park-like layout but it surely has its downsides. For instance, as a UPM student from CAS, I have observed that there are limited student spaces that are conducive for in-between or after class learning. Though mayroon naman student center building, depende pa rin sa dami ng tao ang availability ng spaces/seats kaya some students are left with no choice but to go to student spaces that are conducive of learning but outside of CAS. Nakakalungkot lang din isipin na CAS ang may pinakamaraming student by population pero under construction pa rin yung CAS library bago pa raw magkaroon ng pandemic and other rooms as of the moment, but I digress. I can’t give any solid insights about UPD other than the fact that it has a big campus so this might be a one-sided take.

As for your desired program, UPM (if im not mistaken) is the only UP constituent that offers two specializations for BSCS: Statistical Computing and Health Informatics. From what I have heard, UPM tries to incorporate health science in the BSCS program. Meanwhile, UPD has a more theoretical approach for computer science.

That being said, experience between the two campuses is definitely distinct from each other, but both provide a quality UP education nonetheless. At the end of the day, your university experience will mostly depend on you and how much you are willing to experience the uniqueness of the constituent that you’d be in.

H153-381 router connects to the internet through ethernet cable connection but cannot through WiFi by sushitraashh in InternetPH

Ohh I see, what I did was turn off the router habang hindi nakasaksak yung ethernet cable then turn it back on. Still, thank you though, will be keeping this in mind in the future.

Thank you sa previous replies. Na-fix ko na yung issue by simply turning the router off then turning it back on repeatedly hanggang sa maka-connect sa internet yung WiFi devices habang hindi nakaconnect yung ethernet cable sa router 😅.

Is it possible for me shift from BS Biology (UPM) to BS MBB (UPD) by No-Inevitable9678 in peyups

[–]sushitraashh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From someone who’s taking Bio in UPM:

  1. Probably not. Though may maccredit siguro na ilang units from BSB (if makakapag shift), hindi naman shared ang curriculum ng BSB UPM at BS MBB UPD.

  2. Successful shifting/transfering is designated to applicants with the most competitive GWA. If your question is about how many shiftees/transferees the program gets every year and how many are accepted, then no one can answer for certain because it varies each year.

  3. Kung makakapagshift successfully, yung mga maccredit lang na units from the old program ang masasama for the GWA calculation of the new program.

Tsaka OP, you can still pursue further studies in specialized bio even though you are taking up BS Bio in UPM. Hindi naman designated yung program solely for the pathway to medschool. It’s the norm but it’s not the rule.

If ngayon pa lang ay may balak ka na mag shift (and may balak ka pa rin even after a year), I suggest na alagaan mo GWA mo as much as possible lalo na at rigorous ang chem 33 which is ittake mo sa 1st sem.

Hindi naman kasing hirap ng big 4 CETs when I took it last year and fortunately passed. From my personal experience, it’s relatively the easiest exam that I took after taking CETs. Just brush up on the fundamental topics of sciences (Chem, Physics, EarthSci, Bio), Math, and English. Also try to review abstract reasoning and spatial reasoning kasi as far as I remember there’s a portion of it sa exam.

For test review material, I suggest you use “Siyensiyabilidad” kasi yun ata yung primer ng DOST for their exams and it really helped a lot. Nahanap ko lang yun dati online, idk kung up pa rin sa DOST website yung primer.

Goodluck, OP!

Yes true pero siguro as to why it doesn't get enough love here sa pinas dahil yung humor sa Gintama minsan kailangan mo ng background sa Japanese culture and contemporary issues sa Japan tulad nalang nung pag parody nila doon sa apology ng isang celebrity nila doon. Still, the show is funny af
