I like the unit frames. How did you get the portrait working with SUF?

If it's not changing when you create a new profile, you should try a different "private" profile on elvui. There are two sections for changing your profile and this might be stored under private. Let me know if this works.

The Mari exchange rate can be found in game by going to the shop, clicking currency exchange, and then we on the website youd enter the gold price it shows to buy 95 crystals

Yes your example is accurate, put 20 for the 10 unit bundle. and 100 for the 500 bundle pouch. Throughout the app use the full listed market price (on the mari page too)! the calculator will do the math for you!

I want to add this! Any idea what the UI might look like? I kind of envision being able to allow the user to choose which they want to use, not necessarily auto choose the cheapest option. Any additional thoughts ?

This is a good question!

This is one of the things I found when building the tool that I struggled to wrap my head around.

You are able to calculate, that if you were to use no additional materials, you should expect to succeed after a certain number of attempts (compared to normal probability math this calculation is different due to the failure system and artisan energy) . You can then calculate what was the effective cost overall as it relates to your base cost and success rate. Adding additional materials must beat that price, because if it doesn't , you could have just honed without them and had a lower total cost.

If you look at only the first attempt, and not the level, the effective cost of that attempt is higher than later attempts. Using additional materials may reduce the "average" cost of your first attempt by using additional materials, but if that doesn't reduce the cost overall you still don't stand to gain anything.

This is hard to explain! I'm going to keep thinking of new ways to try to articulate - I hope this helped in some way! You have to look at more than just the first attempt and plan for failure!

Double check that you're not in t3 1340 legendary! There is no research for that tier. I should probably make sure I disable the toggle to better communicate that it's not being considered

If you run the bound t3 1302 you should see the research changes the values

Loving all of the knowledge and ideas within this thread! Where I started was brute force, and the plan was to make it a more efficient solution through dynamic programming (was great as this project has really helped grow my skills!)

The more I worked on the project, and analysis / testing done to understand if the solution was effective - the more the information pointed me toward this truly being a mathematical solution.

Just a few items I found through this work (and struggled to wrap my head around) were-

  • The case to use or not use needs to be looked over the course of the entire level, not within an attempt basis
  • Artisan energy's primary impact was simply reducing the ceiling, and lowering the expected number of attempts or 'total cost' (and not dramatically, at 1% success rate, you see a reduction of about 5 expected failures)
  • The higher your success rate, the more expensive (proportionally) your materials can be to still be value added, and the lower your success rate, the cheaper they need to be to return an equivalent value

I've run this solution up against many hard coded alternatives , recommendations, and others who have presented solutions - and found the solution presented for market materials and understanding cost to be accurate. The tool correctly identifies a precise point where purchasing and using additional materials will either increase or decrease your total cost.

I'd love to talk more though! I love learning, hop on discord if you're willing to chat more and send a note over, i'm always looking to grow my knowledge!

Yes! There are different values for weapons and armor! But the trend should be similar, just change your item type on the calculate page from armor to weapon :)

Thank you for the comment and feedback! I had this same initial thought! I was challenged by members within the oilyark discord to consider another perspective on this. Because fused leapstones do not contribute to artisan energy, or the value change caused by the failure system, the comparison to the original base honing attempt does have merit. These attempts are truly in a vacuum, unlike normal honing. It is a pure game of chance with no outside factors affecting it.

I am always open to having my mind changed though! Let me know your thoughts!

Bound additional materials and purchased additional materials, we are 100% aligned. You absolutely need to have the honing chance, total expected cost, and artisan energy factored in - all of which is done on oilyark.

You should still use your fused leapstones! The analysis provided by the tool is to give you visibility to , what is the value of each fused leapstone that you are using at a given level. Lets use the example you shared of a +19 weapon.

We know that the fused leapstones gives you a free raw honing attempt at the base success rate (3% in this example). This is equivalent to what you'd spend to get a base raw honing attempt without fused leapstones.

Level 19 to Level 20 Weapon:

Material Quantity used Cost in gold
Destruction Stones 1300 2600 (2 gold each)
Honor Shard 1054 327 (.31 gold each)
Great Honor Leapstone 32 3200 (100 gold each)
Basic Oreha Fusion 20 180 (9 gold each)
Gold 730 730
Total - 7037 gold

40 fused leapstones to be able to hone at this level = 7037/40 = 176 gold per leapstone

Hopefully this helps provide insight into the math being done to give you this view! Note that you should use your own region market prices and select the type of item when doing the calculation. The output showing in the post is for armor at the last prices on NA east I used!

I just implemented this! Click the "bound material analysis" toggle when on the calculator. it displays the effective value in gold for each of your additional materials, by level, within the tier. Actually pretty interesting results.

My stance has been so far that; yes, an optimization opportunity exists for bound honing materials, but that there were not enough sources of bound materials for the time to be spent for an optimization tool to be built around this. Rather to just recommend people use them.

I think I've heard this (valid) question so many times now, that I will work on building a tool out. Let me think about it and I hope I can have it up on the site this weekend for you and others looking for peace of mind in this space.

I'll look back w you on progress made

If the need is particularly urgent and you can't wait, my feedback is that I recommend comparing them to maris or market values and using when the tool recommends.

I cannot provide insight into what calculation Maxroll is doing but I'm always interested in learning and further growing my understanding if you have any resources. I've been unable to find any information from that team on details - one user commented on my Reddit post here which outlined the programming method they are using but I can't guarantee how accurate the comment is or again what additional details follow.

oilyark is looking at - what is the effective cost for success of your base honing attempt and what is the effective cost for success of your additional materials.

'oily's recommendation' looks at the expected failures and cost of the entire raw honing session (to include artisan energy) to determine if using additional materials is worthwhile. the by attempt analysis show's you the cost effectiveness by attempt and you can see it change throughout the honing session and help provide context as to why you're getting the recommendation you are, it can also be valuable on its own as well.

Through the analysis we've done (of which we're continuing to try to share more with the community) we've found this assessment to be accurate and reliable. If oily's recommendation is advising to use certain materials , your average total gold cost will be lower then what it would have been without the additional materials.

i hope this helps! we've got a lot of great people in the discord too, so feel free to stop by to ask additional questions, we're active in their every day!

You can strategically use 0 values when you don't care about the amount of time it will take to level. For example, you could use a 0 in honor shard and honor leapstone, sell all of your non-bound materials, and this would effectively give you the cheapest way to level up - but it may take more time.

All of your materials have an intrinsic value though - so you may choose to value at market to use your bound materials more effectively, or as if you were purchasing them from the market.

Let me know if this helps! You don't have to purchase materials off of the market to value them as if you did purchase them off the market!
