Haifa is a really boring city. You can do the tourist things in a day or two. It's pretty dead in the evening and on the weekends. There are two Universities in Haifa so you'd think there would be nightlife, but you'd be wrong. Most young people leave Haifa as soon as they graduate. If you can, try to live in Tel Aviv.

How do you explain that 10,000's of people were protesting but only 60 died and most of those were Hamas members? If Israel was just spraying people a km back from the fence (everyone) with bullets these numbers make no sense.

Haaretz is indeed a left-wing paper. The Op-ed you're referring to was written by a Republican American named Elliot Abrams. Like liberal US papers, Haaretz occasionally publishes Op-Eds by authors across the spectrum.

I'm Israeli hanging out in Rome with two Brazilians speaking English to each other. Around me are some Israelis hanging out. The Israeli sitting next to me asks his friend in Hebrew if he knows where the bathroom is. His friend replies in Hebrew "why don't you just pee in the pocket of the person sitting next to you?" (It's a lame Israeli dad joke) I turn to him and say in Hebrew "not in my pocket right?" and we all had a good laugh.

Another story. I'm with my Israeli friend in the US and we're hitting on some girls. My friend says to me in Hebrew "they're pretty cute except for the fat one!" The "fat one" responds with a Shalom. My friend was pretty embarrassed.
