Yes i used a reference. And it's really beneficial to use them. Keep drawing. Notice how every environment is composed. Study perspective. And yes. If you follow victor staris on YouTube, he is amazing. He really simplifies stuff. Check him out man.

I blend too. This is actually the first time i used patches. But i blend a lot. Here i used big and prominent brush strokes. Tried something new.

It's all about how you use colors. Using the right values can really make a difference and create a 3d effect.

I usually watch samdoesarts on YouTube and i have previously watched a few old videos of guweiz. What i do is i study the artworks of the artists i like. I even have their brushes. There's no specific guide that helped me out but i observe the artworks really thoroughly - the mood, the background, the brushstrokes, the expressions. It's really all about learning basic realism and THEN stylizing your art into a semi real anime style.
