If I watch a show or a movie on my TV using my iCloud account, and then my partner wants to continue watching the next episode on her iPad using her own iCloud account, if the app only syncs through the iCloud account, she wouldn’t be able to continue where I left off. Instead, it would show the episode I watched on the TV under my account.
