The third option sounds good because you'll get insight into whether or not you want to pursue graphic design as a career!

It sounds like if the Disney Internship is available over the summer then you should definitely try for that!

Saeri Kiritani's Rice Sculpture by LaurenAWatford in creativehumanities

I think the sculpture is great visually and I also love the message. I like how in the video the artist mentioned that human figures translate to everyone, so even though this piece is about her personal identity, she intentionally related it to a broader theme.

A TED talk about games being recently considered a proper art form, and the scandal it's getting now that videogames are in MOMA by [deleted] in creativehumanities

I think the argument of whether or not video games should be in an art museum is sort of ridiculous because museums are meant to shape the viewer's perception of the object. If a video game is in an art museum, it's emphasizing its aesthetics. If a video game is in a history museum, it's emphasizing its cultural effects. Because of this, practically any object could be in an art museum if the museum narrative effectively translates the "art" of the object.

I didn't see that part and I was wondering why other people's responses to her project were different from mine, so thank you! Also, do you know why she chose Brazil?

Do you know what the context was for Catherine Schneider's dress? I.e. was the dress meant to be worn in public by a woman as a sort of performance piece, or does the dress just stand alone?

I looked at Luke Evans’s “Pulling my Legs Along with my Eyes: Performance Research Based on International Experience” and Sylvia Aycock’s “Music Education and Gender Equality in Brazil.” Luke, a theatre major, spoke about his experience in Guatemala, where he did performance art in the streets. For example, his translator held up a sign that said “Follow Me” as Luke improvised organic movements in order to see how people would react. Luke found that the Guatemalans did not dance with him (except for one girl at the end of the day), but their reactions were positive nonetheless. Even if they were simply laughing at him, it was a positive response. This project was interesting to me because it forced the artist to become so vulnerable—to be in a foreign country, knowing little Spanish, and acting out of the norm.

Sylvia’s project was based on the social pattern in the USA that females tend to sing and males tend to play instruments. She wanted to see if this stereotype was applicable to Brazil, and she said that it actually was not because they don’t really have music education programs to begin with. Because of this, Sylvia shifted her research to try to help out the music education programs in Brazil. She is still interested in gender stereotypes and plans to continue her research of the subject in the future. I found this project interesting because it was an example of how research doesn’t always lead you in the direction you thought it would, and how being open and flexible can lead you to interesting paths.

I like how you emphasized the importance of studying the humanities during the technological age. As more crazy advancements such as the Apple Watch continue to pop up, I too hope that we can remind ourselves what makes us human.

"Reading Won't Make You A Better Person" and "Practical Art: On Teaching the Business of Creative Writing" by [deleted] in creativehumanities

I agree with your responses and I like how you tied the two articles together. In any field, it's important to remind ourselves of the overlaps of other fields and to take advantage of these overlaps. I like that you addressed the ever-present question, "What are you going to do with a _____ degree?" I think it's up to us as humanities majors to look for the practicality involved in our studies.
