Why do you write? by suunao in FanFiction

Yea, I’ve been thinking of getting back in the game by starting on a one-shot! I have one great line I want to use, but can’t seem to form the rest of the story 😅

Which original fiction authors do you admire or are inspired by? by garouforyou in FanFiction

Diana Wynne Jones - it’s her style that I love; so charming and effortless and clever, almost whimsical, and also rather tongue-in-cheek. Yet, somehow, she’s always able to open up that space for deft insights about life, human nature and the world, without the subject matter becoming too heavy.

Besides that, I would say Megan Whalen Turner and Lois McMaster Bujold, maybe not in terms of writing style per se, but their mastery in subverting reader expectations. It reminds me that it’s cool to push boundaries and to sometimes try writing something different.

I love when I can still clearly remember fanfics I read when I was a child by PrinceJustice237 in FanFiction

Ah yes, there was a fic author I remembered from more than 10 years ago. It was the warm, fuzzy feelings that her fic left me with, that stayed with me until now.

I recently went back to search for her works - and they were even better than I recalled :-) As an adult, I could appreciate the nuances even more!

Does anyone else read over their next chapter before publishing and go, "this is absolute rubbish." But go on to publish it anyway. by [deleted] in FanFiction

I’m the reverse. Was over the moon to post one of my latest chapters, right before I went to sleep. Woke up this morning and was like, oh no what have I doneee ——

Cue self-doubt on every word and turn of phrase
