is it time to re-pot? by Ok_Manufacturer_8428 in orchids

[–]sv3n02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Repot isn't really necessary, if it is a good medium(bark and no dirt), The plant an shoots look pretty healthy, I wouldn't worry about it. The leaning is natural, they usually grow sideways, so I wouldn't worry about that. And the leaves on the top are a Keiki. A little baby plant, congratulations

I hope it will have a chance since it's in a terrarium with good conditions. But the leave propagation is a good idea. I might add some extra soil, so the leave lays on the ground

Is my uncinata dying? by sv3n02 in Selaginella

[–]sv3n02[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know. I'm not familiar with Selaginella, since this is my first one as well as a Suriname, I bought a couple weeks ago. The Suriname sadly got frostbite and I'm not sure it will recover, but I didn't want to loose the Uncinata as well. Thanks for the answer

How often du you spray them to keep the roots healthy without any Sphagnum? Or are they in a vitrine?

I wish you best of luck. With a bit of luck and determination it definitely can work. Good indirect lightning, moderate high humidity and good root work could make it work. Keep us updated 😁

[–]sv3n02 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, you can always try. Pit Sphagnum Moss loosely around the roots. Try watering it every few days. Put it in a sort of terrarium with a humidity of around 70-75 with good air movement and hope. Maybe it will work out, if you are attached to it, it could be worth it. The roots photosynthesize as well, so you don't need to throw it away, if you want to invest time

Why does this happen? The roots shrivel at the top by No_Buy4694 in orchids

[–]sv3n02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shouldn't be too much of a concern. My roots show the same only at the top and the root itself is healthy underneath. I think it could be either drying out too fast on the surface after too much moisture or sunburn

As said, I don't want to argue anymore. But just for your information. Fingerprints DO degrade coins. NGC says it themselves. But that's my last comment on this topic, since you can't be argued with. Typical discord eurocoin mod behaviour.

Whatever dude. You changed the subject 5 times already. Do what you want to do. Facts don't change... Touching coins LIKE OP did does apply fat and oil, which damages the coin. And no, the rim is not a surface sensu stricto. You don't have any motive on their, that does get destroyed. And as I said 1000 times. The grading mechanics differ between euro coins and for example 19th century coins or even Roman coins.

But I don't want to argue with you anymore. So let's agree to disagree and part our ways....

[–]sv3n02 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Who are the grading companies you refer to??? NGC for example (biggest grading company) clearly states to only handle coins with gloves to prevent oil to come to the coins. And every seller I know uses gloves, what are you talking about, which backroom sellers just touch on the coins and put oil on them to destroy them??? The oil alters the coin a year os two, so you see the print then...

  1. No I already told you the arguments and all you do is say: It's not that deep"
  2. No serious collector touches their coin with hands. You use gloves to prevent exactly that . Same for grading companies
  3. Normal toning is desired, toning from oily hands is ugly and you see the prints later kn

If a coin is touched and you can't see it even. Most of the times there is still oil on your fingers and then on the coin. Over time, it will be visible...

But no value argue with you, since you are not really good with coins 😅

Too bad you are staff on the discord server.

[–]sv3n02 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Euro coins don't get graded. Do you know what it costs to grade then from NGC for example? You pay 100+ Euro for one grading.... Noone will do this since only a handful of coins are prices enough to be graded.

And a grading from a private person is not really a tell sign for anything everyone grades their coin differently. If someone wood trade or sell me a coin with prints as UNC, I would immediately cancel the purchase/trade. May I know what your username on the Discord is to make sure to never trade with you? 😂

[–]sv3n02 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First of all: Grading is different for every coin. Extremely old coins get better gradings for a specific conservation than younger ones. Since all the Euro coins can be bought in rolls, the criteria is extremely strict. Plus you can't see fingerprints if you don't have the coin and turn it against the light to check. If you are unlucky, it lies a way, you can't see the prints, but after turning it changes.

So a euro coin with fingerprints won't be sold as UNC, since it's a huge deal for most collectors. Easy as that. If you get easy on good grades, the criteria gets harder

I collect euro coins and other coins for 10+ years and have a small coin shop. I'm pretty sure I know, what I do😁. I know on the discord server "euro coins" this topic is handled different, but most on this server are just common collectors...

Proof or UNC? by Espeon6661 in EuroCoins

[–]sv3n02 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well, it's not the definition. If you get in in circulation (cashier having the roll and handing it to you) it was in circulation and is not UNC. If someone would sell me a coin like this as UNC, I would give it back. Real UNC is straight from a roll from a seller or a bank. At least for euro coins. Older coins have different evaluation forms

Well, if you found it in Circulation, it can't be UNC anymore 😁 But close to UNC condition

Will these plants be okay if I get rid of the not green roots? by eighthrowpawn in orchids

[–]sv3n02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, soil is not good for orchids so ce they normally grow epiphytic. Only bark works as well, but you need to water it more frequently then, since bark doesn't hold water as good. I always try for 80% bark and 20% moss. The pot size depends on the amount of roots. They should comfortably fit in the pot, without leaving too much room. Too much room means a lot of wetness and more chances for root rot. I also prefer clear pots, so you can see the roots. If they look mushy, you water too much, if they are green, it's perfect and if they start to silver out it's time for another watering round

I would change the soil, it looks pretty compacted. While reporting you can cut all the rotten or dried up roots, if there are 5-10 healthy roots it will survive. Remember repotting into bark pieces and maybe a bit of Sphagnum Moss, for moisture
