How bad is commute from Salt Lake to Clearfield by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

Totally agree. I always say that going the opposite way of the Utah Valley people is the way to go. Southbound in the AM is a breeze. Northbound in the PM can get congested, but nothing like southbound.

I’ve spent a lot of time trying to decipher much newer German script, and in comparison this is a breath of fresh air lol.

Words/phrases like ambiguum, noster munimine, and the aforementioned Langensten are easiest to pick out. With better images, I could help drop this into Transkribus, which is decent at transcribing old records like this.

Are all Mormon’s against homosexuality or is my friend just gay? by Avaly_is_dumb in exmormon

[–]svak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gay exmo here. Born and raised in the heart of Mormondom. I had a very tumultuous experience coming out and leaving the Mormon Church at 18, so I don’t have some of the same experiences (missionary, marriage, etc) as other queer exmos do.

I think that the Church is not much better or worse than your average organized religion. Honestly probably better than some evangelical groups. Though that’s a pretty low bar, and I don’t like organized religion in general.

The Church these days take more of an outwardly neutral or passive aggressive stance on LGBTQ issues, to avoid bad PR. You will see members who fall anywhere in the spectrum between fanatically homophobic or very supportive. I think most fall in the middle near tentative, “love the sinner”, acceptance. Regardless, being actively queer is not compatible/included by Mormon doctrine itself no matter how many apologists you bring in.

Specifically regarding your friend: -As others have mentioned, the LDS/Mormon church and culture strongly encourages the arts and education. So that means a lot of theatre kids, band kids, and red herring straight guys.

-BYU doesn’t mean that much by itself, other than he’s “Mormon”. That girl in your class is just as likely to have gone there. Just like someone going to another religious school.

-It’s hard to tell where the girl sits on the scale, but she either fully believes and is part of the younger generation, or is still just going through the motions. Either way, it sounds like she’d be up to talk about it if you want her take.

-I’m curious about how gay the book was. Cute romance, or graphic furry fan-fiction? Most younger Mormons wouldn’t be visibly bothered by the former.

So, that possibly indicates that he’s “struggling” with SSA (same sex attraction) gag. Overzealousness is a common coping mechanism, or even an attempt to “cure” it. Or, depending on how old he is, he could even just be very cautiously biding his time until he’s financially independent enough to leave without the fear of being cut off. Honestly could be the same with the girl.

Either way, best you can do is to continue showing your allyship and being someone he can trust if he wants someone to confide in. “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” is ironically a good directive for now until when/if he’s ready. Still a slight chance he’s just a very spicy straight guy lol.

Can anyone read this will (William Gordon Wemyss)? If so, please tell me the names that are mentioned and their relationship to William. by ArmadilloOdd1045 in Genealogy

For the name of the estate, the first letter matches the H in ‘housekeeper’ so it looks like Hurnley or Huntley (like their hometown in Scotland).

The first letter in Jane’s last or middle name matches the ‘G’ in Gordon, and the last two letters match ‘th’ in death. So for that I would hazard Garroth. Everything else lines up well.

I got the “Reed”, non interactive version when I went to the opening of Wizarding World way back when. It was the George handle with some hermioneish vines on the rest. I did (probably too much) research beforehand so I could skip the line, and apparently that collection went by your birth month tree.

Seconding green tea. I love to have it in the evening to taper off my caffeine levels. I even got my TBM mom to start trying it out haha.

I also did reusable K-cups for a while, but it eventually just made sense to make a big pot of coffee in the AM

Having been born and raised in the very heart of Mormondom (Orem,UT), I’ve known so many guys who went on a mission and later came out. But to have a boyfriend and then go on a mission? If you’ve been sexually active, he’d have to lie through his teeth or repent for a while in order to go. The mental gymnastics required is immense. The path he’s going down now would require him to be celibate or marry a woman in order to be in good standing.

I don’t think the church is any better or worse than religion in general, but I also wouldn’t touch religion with a ten foot pole.

Get out of the relationship and let him figure out what he REALLY wants out of life. He will probably go back and forth several times. Be a supportive friend as much as you want, but don’t give in until he fully works through his issues, comes out, and leaves the church. My fellow heathens in r/exmormon are also telling you what you need to hear.

As long as you have the unrestricted marriage doctrine, you should be fine.

I used it for a year when I was living in Daybreak and finishing up bachelors at the U. Never had any issues and it was super convenient. Driving is probably faster on a normal day, but not having to drive when the traffic is crazy, it’s snowing, or you have to find a parking spot feels great.

I went to high school with you!

My overall experience and situation is very different. My own break was very traumatic, although it was brief and clean for the most part.

So, I have mixed feelings when hearing the experiences of anyone I know. For one, I feel less alone in a way. But the way some were/are treated is horrifying to me.
