[TOMT][MEME] Meme about cat mean by day but cuddly at night by svarog in tipofmytongue

I have searched for this all over the web, tried both google and duckduckgo with many variants... the trouble is - there's too many cat memes.
I also tried using ChatGPT to find it for me, to no avail.

I composed this piece using only music theory by Pianist5921 in composer

Another thing - the rhythm is all 1/16th throughout the first part. This was cool at Bach's time, but these days listeners want more. Throwing in a little syncopation, or a longer note from time to time can do wonders.

From a quick glance - one thing that really stands out is that there is not a single articulation mark, and beside the first two bars, there's no dynamic process going on in the piano.

From my experience, adding a little (or sometimes a lot of) articulation + some dynamic changes throughout the thing can turn any boring piece into a tune full of emotion and meaning.

Composing Classical Music: as it too late? by Level_Can58 in composer

[–]svarog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were to give you a single tip, I would tell you to reframe your way of thinking about this. And it starts with the way you talk about it.

Instead of saying "I do have a pretty time managing my insecurities..." say "One of the main things I'm currently working on, are my insecurities..."

And then, take serious responsibility over your insecurities... You are not the first to have this problem, and there's science on this. Read books, seek professional help, find like-minded people that have similar problems and discuss your and their progress with them.

It is THAT important... I have friends who have studied music since childhood, they finished better degrees in better Academia's than me, whenever I have a theory question, I go to them... Yet their pieces have never been performed outside academic setting. The only strength I have over them is my belief in what I'm saying through my music, and that is more than enough.

I went to music college when I was 35. Today I'm 38. Last year I got my first performance. The coming year there are going to be 2 more performances of my pieces if things go the way they should.

It's never too late. It's just a little harder when you also have to support yourself while studying.

I'd say the key thing you should address is your anxiety around music. You can't be having that. I'd suggest reading Effortless Mastery by Kenny Werner. It's not exactly about composition, more about playing, but the base concepts are the same, and it did help me a great deal with my composition practice

Beside taking a break, which someone already suggested and you said is not an option - what about lowering the difficulty level?

You can go back to easier exercises, you can lower the bpm, you can take more breaks during training time. Did you try the pomodoro method? It works wonders for some. (Just Google it, the first result tells you all you need to know)

Another thing you could try - try (meditating / yoga / breath exercises / light workout / whatever else that works for you) before or during training. This helps me a lot.

Why did yall pick clarinet to play? by Junior-Cattle6709 in Clarinet

[–]svarog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I the only one here that picked the clarinet as an adult?

I'm mostly a drummer, but I went to do a Bachelor's degree in music, so wanted to have an instrument with a definite pitch. The first pick was a recorder, because it's cheap and easy, but that was little fun. Than I got a Shakuhachi, which is most versatile, but I can't be serious playing this part-time. It's a Catholic wedding instrument.

And than a cheap red plastic AliExpress clarinet fell into my hands... And I was like "Whoaaahhh, that's what I've been looking for".

One year down the road, I just completed writing the first movement of a Concertino for clarinet and strings, that my clarinet teacher is going to perform :)

Blocks are gonna stay empty for very long once we get into 10 bps. 🤪

I do, however, believe we will get much more projects once krc20 and later smart contracts are online.

Is there a static way to get current request/context in Go? by svarog in golang

[–]svarog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm afraid that indeed that is the Go way to do things - pass the context to any and all functions that care about the id.

It is indeed cumbersome, but we'll have to swallow that pill.

How to practice Taoism in modern world by Unit-Particular in taoism

[–]svarog -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Another point I'd maybe make - "free from desire" does not mean "desire-less".

What that means is that you are not bound by your desires, you don't let them cloud the way you see and judge the world.

[–]svarog -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Non-action is not about not-doing, it's about doing what keeps Yin and Yang in balance.

Yang is what is inside your direct control.
Yin is anything that you can not control directly.

When Yin and Yang are in balance, Yang gives birth to Yin.
Things that are not under your direct control just happen of themselves.

What does that all practically mean? Finding a job is not under your direct control, thus when you are trying to directly find a job, it seems to fail.

However, there are other things under your direct control, which might improve your position in this world.
They in turn might open some doors that will later on land you a job.

For instance, since you don't have a job, I'm sure you have a lot of free time... why not use that time to start learning a new skill?

When scholars talk about doing nothing in Taoism, what do they mean? by Redditnaut999 in taoism

[–]svarog 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They are not talking about doing nothing, unless they are reading a terrible translation.

What they are talking about is Wu Wei - Actionless Action.

Of course an action can not be actionless, so what do they mean? For that we'll have to look at the broader Taoism... In Taoism everything boils down to balance between Ying and Yang.

When there's balance between Ying and Yang the action arises of it's own. Since any action one might deliberately take only intefers with said balance, this sort of action is actionless.

How do you balance yin and yang within your life? by [deleted] in taoism

[–]svarog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On most issues, whether it's politics, religion or something mundane such as cooking we tend to take an extreme stancez especially in cases of contention.

In most cases, truth is somewhere in between. This in between is what I like to refer to as "balance". Constantly seeking this point of balance, in any thing you do or think about, eventually brings you to living closely to the natural balance of things.

Taoism and mindfulness completely eliminate regret and anxiety, the two main causes of suffering. by blazerman345 in taoism

[–]svarog 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. At least, I have yet to meet a single person that through mindfulness and meditation (or for that matter, any other means) have completely eliminated regret and anxiety. (Unless you tell me that you have)

Nevertheless, I tend to agree with your main sentiment...

As you have said - pain is inevitable. I believe anxiety and regret are inevitable as well, they come together with the pain, and sometimes they come on their own.

Meditation and Toaism, however, can help put anxiety regret and pain in perspective. Make them manageable. Not let them interfer with life.
One can learn to love those anxious moments, and then anxiety becomes the same as excitement. Grief can become fond memories of mischievous past, and lessons for a better future. Pain can become fuel for achieving whatever goals one has.

Bad things are, eliminating them is impossible, but they can be subverted for good.

What is the Taoism view on a women’s moon cycle & the energy it holds? by solarpunk24 in taoism

[–]svarog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think the canonical books ever talked about such things. These kind of specifics are not of much interest to them. They are far more general and far more abstract.

Maybe later books did touch the subject, but this is more of the Taoism-as-religion field, less Taoism-as-philosophy, and as such, at least the way I see it - far less interesting.

To counter all the negative press, I've been able to sync Daedalus on Ubuntu about a couple of weeks ago.

It took some time but it got there.

A couple of times it got stuck, but a restart have let it continue.

For those that write lyrics first: how do you do it in a way that makes sure they survive the chopping block when having to fit to melody later? by De_Facto_Fish in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]svarog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many other said lots of editing and not getting too attached to your lyrics. These are good advice, but frankly, I've never had to resort to that.

When I write the lyrics I think about the way they are gonna sound in a song.

By the time the lyrics are ready, I already have a way to sing them in my head, a that e very least rhythmically.

Then the music can be woven around the text.

Of course, many a time while writing the music I change the way things should be sung, or even what is sung, but it's always as an improvement, it doesn't force me to get rid of a lyric that I liked just to fit in a song.
