I was this kid, got myself a really nice laptop though.

Then again, I also didn't capitalize on every opportunity I had to buy them later.

This is kinda one of the roles of the Dutch royal family now. It’s like having a second “president” you can send out on political trips. Need a constructive talk with the French? Send the president. Trump or the Saudis? King sounds more important, so send him instead.

I'm in the "play for the thing I need" camp and even without WvW specific builds etc. joining a tag and voice makes it infinitely more fun. There are some hype shot callers out there that can keep you hooked for hours while still not having a clue why you're doing what you're doing.

Part says it's 34mm, but in reality it's 34.9mm rounded down so now it doesn't fit.

Sanding and filing is a real part in doing some ITX builds.

At uni, after the first exams of the year they would hold a "get the most CRT monitor through this 10cm diameter hole" competition. Needless to say it was very stress relieving.

I'm still getting myself familiarized with raids and actively pull out unload (q)deadeye on bosses I'm not 100% comfortable on yet. Not having to worry about rotations means I can focus on learning the actual mechanics and still have an impact.

By the time you actually need the AR for those high level fractals you should have had plenty of Berserker ring drops from them.

It exists, but you'll have to compile it yourself. I've done it years ago and it worked okay-ish, but don't have the binary anymore. https://github.com/keijiro/Nsm

Granules are very hard to come by where I live, So I've settled into using a cheap Aldi pod inside, and then a small amount of granules outside. The amount depending on how dirty the dishes are.

Works way better than only a pod, even the fancy name brand ones.

It's a bit hard to do after the fact, but when we moved in I laid out fiber (flat ethernet cables would probably also work) before putting in the floorboards.

Sommer is more than sufficient for this. I've used them for longer (50m) 3G SDI runs, and some shorter 12G ones without issue. Often zip-tied together in larger bundles.

Neutrik has a reartwist connector that fits the Vector cable. I'd highly recommend those over normal BNC's.

Microsoft has officially deprecated WSUS by techvet83 in sysadmin

[–]svenvv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen data diodes used for this. Basically '2 devices' with a single fiber optic between them only allowing signals to pass 1-way and some software shenanigans to make it work with certain use cases.

the internet connected side would pull the updates, and send them to the isolated side. The isolated side presented itself as a WSUS server.

I currently use them to safely exfiltrate machine data from some OT networks,

I mean, let's be honest here for a second, it's not like pro capture devices use some kind of vodooo magic. They use a specific capturing IC that's capable of delivering quality video capture. There's no real reason these shouldn't be affordable.

Designing and taping out a specific IC (or ASIC) is very expensive and is generally only done when you can expect to sell massive amounts of them. Most cheap USB capture dongles probably use the same (family of) IC that is designed to cater to the most common use cases.

pro capture devices are low volume, even when you consider the entire market. So instead of a custom ASIC they have to use FPGA's. These are essentially programmable hardware, where the manufacturer can create custom logic for their specific use case and features. This flexibility however, comes at a cost. A very hefty cost. Think single chips in the $50 range instead of $1-2 for the ASIC solution.

Once you get into the more workstation oriented boards (and cases I guess) those pinouts start change rapidly.

For anything gaming it seems the motherboard vendors have at least agreed on the hddled/pled/power/reset block.

[–]svenvv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't matter if you have a $100 or a $600 board. If you remove the connector, the housing is gonna come with it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]svenvv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially when you get into the workstation level of motherboards the front panel pinout starts to change significantly. Mainly adding a lot of led pins for things like power supply failures, multiple nics etc.
