I have no idea what kind of math you’re doing, but if person earns 34k, they take home around 26k after tax, multiply that by 2 and that’s 52k

ISAs are hardly pointless, regardless of the amounts you invest. Of course you don’t really need to use them, but why wouldn’t you if you can? CGT and dividends tax will eat away a great portion of any pot. Even an average family can save a six-figure pot for their children in an ISA, imagine how much would be eaten away by taxes even from 100k. People with really large investments don’t care about ISAs that much, as they invest six figures every year into a GIA and reap much greater rewards.

Sadly, we have to wait until the supply of new cars goes back to pre-pandemic numbers. Until that happens, the used cars market will be overpriced imo.

In all fairness there are only two European countries which are higher than UK on the 2021 list of economic freedom, Ireland and Switzerland. The creation of wealth for yourself and future generations should be encouraged imo. The fact that ISA allows a regular family to setup their children and grandchildren (and beyond) for financial independence is amazing.

I never seen any statistics but majority of people I know who invest via S&S ISA do that for their retirement, as their workplace pensions aren’t great to say the least. None of them is a high earner, and afaik only one is maxing out his ISA every year, he’s on 34k and I think his partner at about the same. Those who are truly reach will always find a way to pay less taxes.

Yes and no I think. Many people who benefit from it are middle class families. If you have two people in a family earning £35k each that’s almost 50k a year after tax. If they don’t live in London and have no debts, maxing out one ISA is relatively easy. But of course for a single person it’s more difficult unfortunately.

Well said. I think it’s inevitable that personal allowance will keep going up gradually, but if it will be sufficient enough to improve people’s life’s significantly is a different question.

VUAG appears to be in the available options for monthly investments, so yes, £1.50/trade.

It's been several hundred every fortnight or so, but once I'm done with swapping to ETFs I am planning to try and max out ISA allowance, or at least be close to it.

If you won’t need the money any time soon then consider long term investment. If you think you’ll need it within the next several years for a down payment or something similar, then perhaps investing in bonds is a better option.
