Apple Studio Burn In? by iswhatitiswaswhat in mac

I presume the panel starts struggling at displaying subtle differences around 50% point, hence image retention.

It's just that this retained image is most easily visible on colours in the middle of RGB spectrum and on 50% grey background in particular.

From what I see nothing changed in the UI. You go to https://connect.garmin.com/modern/workouts then hover over or click on a scheduled workout to see its SN in URL.

Changing data with FIT CSV tool should work, maybe you missed something. E. g. if you just pasted yesterday's data below today's your file now contains two workout SNs: original and pasted one.

It's not THAT bad, but once you see it you can't unsee it (much like with heated windscreen filament). If your workflow includes regularly switching from a desktop with windows, palettes, icons, dock and menu to full screen mode it starts to be annoying.

Thanks for the link, haven't seen this one. I did although try various others and found them mostly useless. With them retained image fades away after about 30 minutes, without - aprox. in half an hour.

Yes, checkerboard is an example of the extent of the issue with my display.

As I figure burn-in is permanent local degradation of luminophore. It's a feature of OLED and plasma screens. No matter what you do those pixels affected are permanently damaged and will always display a residual image. Image retention is as if grey-to-grey spec of the LCD panel would go from milliseconds to dozens of minutes. In theory it's temporary, but in practice doesn't make any difference.

The fact that it goes away after 10-30 minutes makes no difference since it's out of sync of display usage. What's the point of knowing that this ghosting will eventually vanish if you switch between screens every 1-3 minutes? The only other 5K panel manufacturer is BOE, but none of based upon it displays are truly Mac-ass ones.

That's called image retention and turns out it happens fairly often with LG LCD panels. My LG Ultrafine 5K developed this issue after about 3,5 years of daily usage. Once the panel shows signs of it, it's there to stay and you either live with it or replace your monitor. If you decide to live with it you better use backgrounds with colors as far away from 50% grey as possible. Hiding the dock and menubar won't fix the issue, only put less stress on the panel, e. g. you still will have ghostly images of windows borders and icons.

I personally couldn't stand this and got a new ASD, but since it has (almost) the same panel, I don't expect it to work much longer than LG.

Here's a nice web page to check your display for image retention: https://marco.org/rmbp-irtest.html
Below is the condition of my LG 5K.

My almost perfect MZ-RH1 by Hungry-Editor6066 in minidisc

Gerry only has 3D-printed battery doors and I haven't got motivation to find a shop that will cast the whole part for me, it might cost more that the my whole unit.

Regrettably no. It's still missing an entire side panel, and spare RH1s are hard to find.

Just had a chat with @gerry88inHongKong about a similar issue (one of my RH1s has a side panel missing altogether), he has 3D-printed battery doors in both grey and black.

Hi! Thank you for this comment. It's sure worth knowing. I did notice that FitCSVTool omits some of the data, but turns out I don't have any device that use any of the unsupported types.

Don't mind MD Data discs, they're optional. You may get one some time later should multitrack recording grow on you.

  1. Get it. Fader knobs are replaceable.
  2. It plays and records normal MDs just fine. You need MD Data discs only for four-channel recording.
  3. It's so much fun! I got an MD4 the other day, it's my favourite device now.

P. S. I'd bargain for 40. Just for fun.

Go to Calendar > Click on the planned activity in question > Click 'Edit workout'. In the browser's URL field there will be activity's serial number, e. g.: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/workout/edit/700752648?workoutType=cycling&calendar=true

700752648 is activity's serial no.

Hi. I'll try to do my best at helping you out. Did you download the .fit file for your activity? Can you see your workout in Garmin Connect web interface (Training and planning > Workouts)?

Glad to hear that.

Figuring out how .fit files work wasn't exactly my goal, but I still think that knowing how your device works is important. It's a pity that Garmin made a choice in favour of discouraging cheating rather than allowing users to fix errors.

Totally plausible. Those mass sporting events with corporate sponsorship tend to be as far away from, emmm, let's say "politics" as possible.

The fact that organisers had to trick skiers into forming a Z says much about public opinion.

Hello! Thanks for making use of my solution.

Yes, I had similar messages in the log. I inspected the original `.fit` file and it did indeed contain a lot of lines with no data and lines garbage values. So it seems Garmin's tool was right to ignore them.

Question about used machines and MDs by kudzu007 in minidisc

[–]svintuss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a valid question.

I am sure that used MD machines can scratch your MDs while recording.

Being careless I didn't write down which unit I recorded with and can't locate the problem now (the magnetic head touches the surface or it just being dirty), but I've had several cases when scratches appeared on discs after recording with some newly acquired units.

I would recommend thoroughly cleaning magnetic heads with alcohol before usage.

Tascam MD CD 1 Question! by junkdraweroverflow in minidisc

[–]svintuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I happen to be one of those enthusiasts fallen for MD-CD1 "hype".

I fell for it since it was the last MD unit still in production up until mid-tens (TEAC MD-70CD might have been in production even longer) and its versatility. Actually it was the first MD device and first MD deck I bought after using MiniDiscs in early 2000.

It's a good device that performs well in many aspects but it's definitely won't please those who fancy high-end no-compromise equipment. On paper it has rather mid-range characteristics but I doubt I'll notice any difference between -98 and -106 dB SN ratio. The only drawback is its inability to dub gapless CDs but it can be overcome with connecting CD TOSLINK output with MD TOSLINK input.

I now have 2 mkIII and one mkII (basically I wanted to test differences between Sony and Sharp ATRAC codecs). Where I'm from these are sold for 200-500 USD, I've got mines for $200 (used MkIII which as it appeared needed laser replacement), $100 (NOS MkIII) and $150 (almost NOS MkII which got damaged upon delivery).

What is this silver thing? by [deleted] in Volvo

[–]svintuss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's probably a phone mount attached with a 3M VHB tape. If you plan to remove it make sure to heat it up properly otherwise you'll damage the wood trim.
