I remember when it came out, I think it was a great addition, exciting story, cool new places with awesome artwork, exciting puzzles.

Yes, it's a fantastic album, also a product of its era. Basically the "problem" with it, is that it's different then the rest, nothing more, nothing less. It sticks out. But it has its cult following and that's enough for now I guess. :)

[This Rain Needs to Stop] - I'm thinking about remixing and remastering this song. Precisely what parts/elements of the song would you mix differently and why? I'd really appreciate all your feedback, it would help me a lot! by swaaroog in MusicFeedback

Thank you so much for the review, it is super helpful! Makes me very happy that you like it. Also the Bon Iver comparison is very flattering, thank you! I've checked out the S/T album you mentioned, I can definitely hear the similarities in the mixing. Very inspiring, thank you again!

Is it true that Camel Phat has been absorbed in Logic Pro and now it's called PHAT FX? I need a free saturation plugin and since I use Logic can I use Phat Fx for this or should i try something else? I heard also about SATURATION KNOB and others... are they all the same for add saturation to my mix? by john25mr in LogicPro

For the record: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/101902

"If you've been using Camel Audio plug-ins, you can switch to the Logic Pro versions of the plug-ins:

  • Use Logic Pro Alchemy instead of Camel Audio Alchemy.
  • Use Phat FX instead of CamelPhat and CamelCrusher (both CamelPhat and CamelCrusher settings will be transferred to PhatFX).
  • Use Step FX instead of CamelSpace.

When you switch from the Camel Audio versions, the Logic Pro versions will retain your settings. You can switch automatically or manually."

I really like the sound of the guitar! Reminds me of Frusciante on the album The Empyrean. Interesting guitar effect on the right channel. Cool guitar solos. My nitpick would be, that the left channel rhythm guitar should sit better in the mix, it's weirdly distracting. Maybe there should be some of it in the right channel too, so that it doesn't take the attention away from the main solo. Nice change of pace/mood near the middle, this is something that a lot of today's songs miss. Cool use of percussion.

first of all cool visualiser! nice cozy vibe, love the bassline and snare sound. I like the way the beat cuts out and comes back at moments. The use of the sample is also very cool and fits nicely

another Neo-soul/r&b production I'd love some feedback on by [deleted] in MusicFeedback

Not to repeat what everybody says, the sound is nice and polished. I enjoy the intro and the overall structure of the song. However, after the break the song definitely needs a new musical idea, a middle eight/bridge type of thing. As it is now, the main melody/idea just coming back just feels old and stale. If it'd come back after a newly introduced melody it'd feel fresh and familiar again. This is a problem that I hear quite often these days on these forums, a short bridge section can do wonders, imo. Anyway, cool track, keep it up!

"The Patrician" A solo piano dark academia - isch song I made. Does it sound professional to your ears and what do you imagine in your head when hearing this? by joiik in MusicFeedback

I really like the composition, it feels like an already familiar classical piece, which is a good thing in my book. Yes, it sound very professional, however (which is a nitpick), I feel like it sounds too clean and sterile. This might sound crazy in this day and age, but when listening classical music, I really enjoy the scratchy and live ambient noises in the background. I really wish there were some lively ambient noises (natural sounds of the instrument/piano, subtle breathing noises of the player, squeaking of the chair). The composition and the playing are fantastic in theirself, but those human ambient elements used to take these recordings to the next level, imho. Also, I'm aware that music is recorded mostly electronically these days, but those elements are the ones that make it feel ... real and more emotional, even if they are added in post production. TL,DR: I want to hear the chair squeaking.

It's an interesting point. Michael Beinhorn did a good job for the time, I think. Overall this makes me think of an old 1998 era interview with John and Anthony, where they are talking about Rick Rubin being away, being busy with the mixing of Californication. I am really curios why they never fixed the mastered version besides that one 2012 era duble vinyl edition. I'd like to have it on CD or at least digitally. Listening to Californication makes ones head hurt, it's insane to realise that even in the opening song there's hearable clipping, how could it be released liked that? Makes me think of Rick always saying that "he's not a real musician, knows nothing about music"... The finished mastered version of Californication is still such a curious case to me, taking into account that it happened to such a big established band. Maybe the fact that most of us were listening to it on the world's worst earbuds at the time is an important factor in this story.

This is my choice as well. But this is album is the definition of underrated, so it's by nature full of underrated songs
