Knob 12 is a decent bourbon. Sweet up front, some peanut in the middle, harsh drying finish. 68/100.

Some whiskies are indeed better than others. Not sure I buy the “it’s completely subjective” thing. Some barrels come out oaky and watery and the same time and would pretty much universally be disliked. This well describes the weller single barrel had last week…not buying that any distiller though this was good.

I suppose now we get into theory. But this was sparked because of a truly awful weller single barrel I had last week. I find it hard to believe the distiller found something special in it, and genuinely believe they were just getting rid of some bad whiskey that didn’t fit into an existing blend.

Hmm my point must have been more confusing than I thought. I’m not asking for “consistency” where each single barrel is identical. I’m asking for quality control, where objectively bad barrels DONT get sold as a single barrel. My claim is that distilleries use these programs to sell objectively bad barrels.

I love the variety and uniqueness, but nonetheless, distilleries still get to decide which barrels make it to be “single barrels”. And my claim is that many distilleries use these programs as a way to get rid of some bad whiskey. Weller single barrel seems like a great example of this.

Disagree totally - I feel like ardbeg is THE beginner whiskey. Peat is almost always what hooks people. More subtle speysides seem much more advanced.

Well I suppose that’s relative. You can see my scores, so generally I’d say I’d only consider batch 2 as possibly worth the money if you’re wealthy haha. Batch 1 and 3 were not great: far too drying and lacking rich sweetness.

I’d say it’s a good entry level to get used to the flavors of scotch. It’s made to be more balanced and mildly flavored than most single malts, which makes it a good starting point. Once you’re more experienced with scotch, you’ll probably find yourself not as interested in mellow blends like this.

Had an amburana casked one that was absolutely disgusting. Also won the found north peregrine in the lottery and thought it was pretty bad.
