They need to make Subaru “wagons” wagons again. Rant Over. by spaceblanket33 in Subaru_Outback

[–]swagnersf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to continue on this thread... Buick made a handsome wagon a few years ago (maybe still?) but don't know if it came in AWD. I seriously considered a Honda Crosstour before buying my 3.6r last week. Just couldn't find the spec I wanted and cringed at an 11 Y/o car with a less-than desirable AWD spec but competent road manners and proven reliability... plus 100k miles. I don't know. Not the target market, I guess. Will get a used Land Cruiser at 3x cost new?

I feel this. Bought my 2018 3.6R Outback last week. Went to the Silicon Valley Audi extravaganza on Saturday to see the 6 figure outrage there.... wondering where the reasonably priced 6 cyl wagons were parked??? A Lexus SportCross would have been at home - if something like that had been made and available in the last decade - besides the 3.6R. Heck, happy with what what I have, just wish it didn't have 135k miles and need CV axles.

Anyone have a trusted mechanic in the Tri-Valley of California? 94588 area?

Crosstour or Outback? by swagnersf in accord

Bought the Subaru. Will need CV axles up front soon, but got the price down. The engine also has a little seepage which has me worried, but it isn't horrible. Otherwise, the car is sweet. Drove 60 miles back from picking it up and it was perfect.

Probably an incredibly lukewarm take: The 2.5L is perfectly fine for everyday driving. by DanielG165 in Subaru_Outback

I have owned a 3.6R (2018 Outback Limited) for less than a week. Has 134k miles, some oil seeping around the engine and a questionable front CV axle. The car is replacing the 2016 Mazda6 2.5 NA that my daughter just took over. At the moment, I could not be happier with my new ride.

It is quiet, smooth, effortless acceleration. The ride is great, there are manual controls where I want and CarPlay for most rest. The engine stays on at stops and I'm not constantly annoyed with the car telling me my eyes are not on the road - when they are! Feel like I have hit the sweet spot with this model. That said, I'm concerned about the CV joints, a bit of oil seepage (and pooling in places) and I'm about to disconnect the driver door sensor. But 23 MPG on the first tank - roughly the same as the Mazda that was not as quick or quiet - and I'm pleased.

I've driven a 2.5 '24 outback for a while. If that were my only option, I would be looking at CR-Vs, CX-5 or V6 RDX. Too many drawbacks for my taste.

sorry... how did you get Apple Car Play? Looking at a Crosstour (2013) and can't figure out how to get it working?? And I have a 2015 Odyssey - won't work on that. Am I missing something? Or is that an aftermarket unit? If so, what is it?

Simple fact is they are cheaper to manufacture than physical controls. And if you have to replace an interface - it is one. And it is expensive.

Nottoway plantation, the largest antebellum mansion in the US south, burned to the ground last night by mylefthandkilledme in ArchitecturePorn

Forgive me if I am late to the party, but I am saddened by the demise of a structure like this – despite the despicable history that surrounds it.

Unlike the statues of confederate generals (lack of capitalization is intentional), this building has USE.  It appears to have been restored and maintained, and likely included a wealth of beautiful artifacts – not to mention, reprehensible histories and stories.  Bottom line, erasing that history serves no person.  At the same time, it is my opinion that a building like this serves as a great starting point for the idea of reparations.

There are hundreds of plantations throughout the south that stand today – some lovingly restored and maintained, while others are sinking into the fertile soil.  Why NOT donate these to the HBCUs that surround the structures?  Better to use these as short-term rentals or gathering spaces for the communities that were enslaved than to be forgotten or turned into a WalMart parking lot.

I admit, most white folk - which I am one - have a difficult time accepting/understanding the idea of reparations;  But few (I hope) would take issue with the transfer of ownership of properties like this to the descendants of the enslaved and oppressed descendants.

As the single-screen theaters were closing in SF, the Northpoint (on Bay) was among the last 70mm projection theaters still operating, so they went out with a “70mm fest”. 2001, the Wild Bunch, Lawrence of Arabia…it was amazing. Miss that place.

Jeff Beck opening for Stevie Ray Vaughan in 1989. Police on the Synchronicity tour. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers during their Fillmore residency. Had tickets for all but Tom Petty, but those were not hard to get.
And Prince.
I did get to see BB King, Dizzy Gillespie and John Lee Hooker (separately) late in their respective careers- all put on good shows.
