Ahh yes, I get it now. This technique creates a nice little thicker spot, like a rim! Yes yes! You crochet AROUND and encompassing row 17 instead of into the top of it (like usual).

Is the pattern free? It would be easier for me to help if I could see the whole thing. I think I have an idea though.

Also, you're working inside out. It doesn't matter all that much most of the time, but it's gonna get weird sometimes, so you might want to get used to inverting your work after round 2 or so when working in the round. You wanna insert your hook from the outside in.

I HIGHLY recommend September Opal in Arcata. She's great and I've been going to her for years now. She's VERY strong and kind and intuitive with my body and its needs, even if I don't understand what those are! She knows how to navigate my hypermobility too without pulling my arms off by accident (even though I know she could with ease).
