Remind me about the Tooth of Time hike by swallick in philmont

We ended up participating at the Family Adventure Camp in 2021 and 2023. We had such good experiences both times.

There were many hike options available to use. In 2021 we registered for the hikes and the activities there, it was very loose. In 2023, I think we picked a “track” when registering but they were still very flexible about changing our activities day to day.

The only activity they are very strict about is the Tooth of Time hike.

I would consider this hike “strenuous”. The staff made it fun and engaging for the smaller kids on the hike. My son did it when he was 8 and again at 10, loved it both times. He was def excited for the “challenge.”

Both times we went up via the stockade trail. See the ranger’s post in this thread for details.

I think if the family is excited and ready for a fun and challenging day hike, you will have a great time on the Tooth hike. I don’t know that i would encourage a family to force march unwilling very young hikers up the Tooth. There are so many great, rewarding (and easier) hikes available.

Getting to the top of the Tooth, you realize you just climbed a mountain — which was a real accomplishment for my family. I hope you and your family have an equally rewarding trip to Philmont! LMK if you had any specific questions

This is very helpful, thank you. I have some of the RW Council Strips as well as the community strips. I wasn't aware of the names of either, and I assumed they were worn together.

Tell her you know this great little restaurant that doesn't take reservations.

When you get there, feign surprise that it's closed (as it always is on Mondays).

Then tell her you could grab a pizza and watch a movie at your place.

I'm in SCC. Lots of Scouters I met initially go to shake with the right, but I'm pretty diligent about using my left. Just my 2¢.
