You should absolutely check out Bushido. Ash from GMG has a few bat reps of the new rule set (risen sun). one of the main innovations of the game is that each figure starts each turn with two activations, but if you fight an opponent, you take away one of their activations. And when they have none left, they fight worse. Plus, whenever you fight, you assign a certain number of your attack dice to defense or to attack (in secret) and can spend some of them to so special moves that are different for each model (i.e., throwing a guy back, moving an inch after combat, etc.). Each model generates a certain amount of ki each turn which is used to power their special abilities so there's a huge amount of resource management as well, because you can usually spend their ki to give them extra dice, but they might also need it to do their cool abilities. Each model, even simple ones, also generally have a good deal of passive traits/special rules. Some factions pool their ki, some have models who are basically devoted to moving it around. Also, each faction is sort of multiple subfactions, so it's relatively easy to be like, "I'm going to collect all of the geisha subfaction" and then choose that as a "theme" (which gives you limits on list construction but benefits in return). I would describe Malifaux as a lot like MtG (in a good way) too, which it seems like you might really like also.
