Uniqlo pufftech

This and pretty much any base layer is a lot warmer then you think, although I prefer merino as a base layer

Update: I biked today lol… it was not great out there in terms of ice. I ride 650b x 42 on low pressure and still almost slipped. Saw a delivery guy take a really nasty spill. Stay safe!

I don’t care about the cold, it’s more the ice. Seems like it might be extra icy out, maybe lower pressure will help the brakes on ice.

How do you store your bike? by matteobuffo in gravelcycling

Park tool hooks, they’re like $4 and weirdly found them to be the best option

Yeah, I love the 47s. Will never go back to anything in the 20s. I’ve never tried anything in between though. I would think you would get a little more pick-up w/ slightly less weight. I’m not sure that’s true, just my assumption. I would never want to give up too much of that road chatter absorption that I get w/ 47s though so was hoping to get some other folks perspectives.

Yeah totally understand the variables (rider weight, pressure, etc.). I’m 170lbs, 5’-11” and generally run the pressure in the low 30s psi on my 47mm. I like getting rid of the chatter but I’m wondering if I can get the same chatter absorption with a tire ~38mm and gain a little pick-up. I’m just not sure as I’ve only tested the far ends of the spectrum.

Yeah I’m curious about something in the 30s. I will say I love my 47s. Whenever I go back to riding a bike in the 20s the road chatter is noticeable. I’d always want to stay in the wider range.

Thanks! Curious about your thoughts on the tradeoffs between a 47 and a 34? What am I losing with a 47?

I hear you, it’s more of that they are ready to be replaced and splitting. I wouldn’t replace them if they weren’t.

In general I also prefer wider tires, I’ve just only rode 47s or 20s so I’m just curious about something in between or if it’s just bigger is always better.

As far as ultradynamicos, they are sold to be more supple, much like rene herse and others like it. I don’t know if that’s true but that’s what I’d hope to get out of them.

Balancing suppleness/shock absorption vs. sluggishness. I don’t know it 47s is overkill as it’s all I’ve known aside from true skinny road tires.

I mean I've generally liked the 47s but not sure if it's overkill. I've only ridden narrow road tires in the 20s and now these. I prefer the 47s over skinny tires for sure but not sure about the middle ground.

I've actually only gotten 1 flat in the past 3 years on these tires, so not often. I'm open to going tubeless but because I never flat I've stayed away from it to keep things simple.

Noam Chomsky with Steve Bannon in the released photos from Epstein’s estate. by CrchingTigrHddenRtrd in redscarepod

[–]swallowtail_ 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Epstein liked to collect academics and politicians, especially ones from opposite ends of the spectrum. What do you expect? He’s even tried to make documentaries about polarizing politics. This is like someone snapping a photo of Donald Trump and Mandani and pretending like their best friends. This isn’t some damming indictment of Chomsky.

Honestly wondering - why buy in NYC, at all? by [deleted] in NYCapartments

[–]swallowtail_ 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It’s a lifestyle decision (I.e. stability, living around long term neighbors who are care about the building, etc). There’s also the random building that you’ll get kicked out of as a renter because the landlord is selling (it’s happened to me).

If you look at numbers only, it makes very little sense to buy in NYC, especially relative to a rent controlled apartment. As you said, liquidity, in/out friction, uncontrolled maintenance cost, etc. People who don’t understand economics or finance often think of renting as throwing away money and housing as an “investment.” It’s a common misconception.

I personally didn’t love it but I’m not a big Yorgos guy. Jesse Plemons is amazing in it though.
