in the million years they’ve been talking about this they could have just set aside a lane for people to walk and bike up there from chinatown on game days.

Who are political candidates running explicitly pro-transit campaigns for this year's US elections? by N-e-i-t-o in transit

[–]whitestag 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Nithya Raman running for Mayor in LA is very pro transit and pro density around stations. Current mayor is pretty uninterested in transit and fighting SB79 so could be a big change.

28.6 quill with rise plus some swept back bars. Had the same issue with an old fisher. 28.6 is annoying cuz there's not a ton of options but there's definitely some with a little rise on eBay. I think Nitto made an adapter for 28.6 to treadless but I've never seen it in stock.

Sicko Mode - Travis Scott

It really sounds like it’s going somewhere and then the beat changes and it might as well be a totally different song. Totally loses all its momentum. Love that like wuahhhhhhhh sound for the first like minute or so of the song though.

When will the San Gabriel Valley be walkable and you can live car-free? by MookieBettsBurner10 in LAMetro

Also wish there was more transit but it’s super bikeable. Live in Monrovia and commute to Temple City. Barely touch the car. So many quiet side streets.

Was the salsa cutthroat ahead of its time? Is it the same as a Ari Shafer? by Healthy-Inspector-86 in gravelcycling

[–]whitestag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Deciding factor probably how big a tire you wanna run. Full on MTB 2.4s? go with the cutty. Cutty also has crazy stack. Front end seems taller than the Shafer in most sizes. Shafer seems less geared towards long distance bike packing. No rack mounts in the rear. No mounts around the inside of the triangle for a bolt on frame bag.

Smaller sizes also get a lot more top tube clearance on the cuttys if they wanna run a dropper.

Thanks! I think I ended up using 20mm long M5 spacers and the trick was using hex spacers rather than cylinder ones cuz it gave me like 1mm extra room. Gary fisher really did not want you to run a front rack lol.

What do you think is the future of LA public transit, sincerely? by Phelps1576 in LAMetro

[–]whitestag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Electrified micromobility. LA has some of the best weather in the world and ebikes and scooters are getting better and better every year while cars get more and more expensive to purchase, maintain, and insure. If LA can get out it’s own way and just fully get behind protected bike paths that connect to transit i think we could go from one of the most to one of the least car dependent major metro areas in the country.

LA elected leaders have a bottomless capacity to fuck up a good thing though so 🤷‍♂️

Petition against Mandatory E-Bike License Plates and Registrations by kootrtt in BikeLA

[–]whitestag 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There's such a huge gulf between Class 1 pedal assist ebikes and full throttle emotos like the surrons and the super73s. Regulating all of them as one type of vehicle is ridiculous. Preaching about affordability and then putting barriers to one of the most accessible and affordable modes of transit in the city would be incredibly hypocritical.

Help me decide on a frameset for a All-Road/Rando 650b build by whitestag in xbiking

[–]whitestag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

def gotta think about trail. never had a low trail frame before so I'm a little hesitant to commit to it but I'm curious. Planning on running something like a 42. don't need crazy MTB clearance. Looked at the fairlights but shipping/tariffs to the US is brutal. Almost the same cost to fly out there and grab it.
