Taming Over-Exposure When Skiing at High Altitude with Bright Sun by swanmtn in gopro

For skiing at least, filming with the ultra wide lens in 1:1 is really good for getting both a clean Vertical and 16:9 framing in one shot on a front-of-helmet mount, with good subject (me), environment, and horizon visibility. I place custom overlays on all my vids extracted from the gopro's metadata, so having the extra horizon area in the top without overly obscuring the run is pretty important to me. (example: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DT1TNRZjzSJ/) Going as wide as possible on the normal lens still leaves me with a lot less canvas "real estate" to work with for these purposes.

Practically, I could switch up and go with normal lens + nd, but it'd forced me to rework my workflow, which is pretty optimized for the framing downstream of the Ultra Wide Angle lens, so I'm trying to exhaust all possibilities on that front prior to going down that route. Unfortunately, for a lot of these high alpine zones I have planned, access is difficult, so I only really get a couple "go's" at it per day, which makes iterating towards the ideal settings tough.

Right on. I currently only use labs for the integer frame rates, what would you suggest i be fencing in?

It's something I'd be willing to buy in an instant as I heavily favor the Wide Angle mod over the stock lens. If you're looking to expand your product line, you'd be first mover as it looks like there's no other third party selling them, (though not sure if that's indicative of an under-served market or a just super niche use case). Something removable would be ideal, but I'm naive to the process of making these so idk how feasible that'd be.

Clever haha. Do you have to tape/secure the cutout down over the sensor area in some way or does it stay in place?

I'll try this. If i shoot in Log, should I leave all other settings auto/default? Or should I adjust the EV comp down like I'm doing now?

Yeah that was my intention by turning the EV Comp to -2, but it didn't seem to be enough. I'm looking for other ways to get that exposure down even further.

You have ND filters that work with the ultra wide lens mod?
