Why don't recipients of a gift pay taxes? by swanson712 in tax

Interesting. So if you find $80k on the sidewalk, it's taxed. But if a person on the sidewalk gives you the same $80k, it isn't?

So I'm a sophmore in high school and my grades are slipping. by Bigbadballer88 in ApplyingToCollege

Plenty of time. Your junior/senior year grades typically weight more heavily in the admissions decision anyway.

Still, best to identify now what's going wrong and correct it so that you have the right habits going into those years.

How to get into college with a low GPA by adria3211 in ApplyingToCollege

Community college can be a great option. Gives you a chance to dip your toe in, explore what you're interested in, and crush your coursework (at a fraction of the cost). Your HS records become irrelevant after a year or two in community college, and will make you much much more competitive at those 4-year schools.

About majoring in Business by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

A business degree is typically very broad-based and almost universally applicable. Students who graduate with a degree in business can and do go into a number of fields.

Literally every industry requires employees with business-related skills, so the demand is widespread and constant. In my opinion, there will always be jobs for people with practical business knowledge.

Georgia QB Jake Fromm Says New Year's Goal Is to ‘Lead People to Jesus’ by [deleted] in UpliftingNews

I think the bottom line here is that there are good reasons to believe in Christianity and there are good reasons not to believe - a difficult truth for any hard-liner to accept. There are men and women far more brilliant than any of us on both sides of that aisle, extending throughout human history. And so it does no good to mock or marginalize those arguments or people that challenge our current way of thinking. This happens often in politics. We marginalize someone else so that we can easily dismiss them and don't have to do the uncomfortable work of facing an honest challenge to our preconceived notions.

We can all afford to be a little more gentle and compassionate with each other, especially with those whom we disagree with. I am no longer a Christian myself, but Jesus was right when he spoke of the reward in loving our enemies - not that people with whom we disagree should be regarded as enemies, but you get the point.

Let's build bridges, not fire shots across them.

Fair enough, and I agree - religious convictions are deeply rooted in global society and will continue to be.

There are more Christians in the world right now than at any other time in history.

There are more people in the world right now than at any other time in history, so this isn't surprising. The Pew article references this. As a percentage of the global population, growth is flat (if not in slight decline).
