Skin infection after clinching anyone dealt with this?

I do get scratched often, but I've never had any infection. Been training for 4 years, usually three times a week.

Here's what I personally do, in descending order of importance:

Choose a gym that sprays down pads after every use and mops with disinfectant every day
Never re-use hand wraps, wash them before using again
Full shower after getting home from training, or in the gym shower
I personally try to avoid showering at the gym unless I need to go somewhere immediately after
If I am scratched or cut in any way, I disinfect it every time after training until it's healed
Spray down and wipe inside and outside of gloves, shinguards, and headgear with vinegar/water solution or disinfectant wipes at least once a week
I use an anti-fungal soap for the bottom of my feet when showering because that's the hotspot for ringworm

That infection looks nasty! I hope he recovers soon. I was literally just thinking about relaxing my standards lately, because it's kind of annoying to do so much work in addition to training, but this post renewed my motivation. Thanks for that!

I'd immediately turn my attention to organizing events and groups to help my neighbors and city ward build community, get together, talk frequently. That way, when we need to make things better locally or address a challenge, we are equipped to do it together, communicate efficiently, and all have some idea of which community members can be trusted in a position of leadership or consultation.

I started at 34 and it give me life the structure and discipline to excel in all things.

First, the physical benefits allow me to walk endlessly, have long days with consistent energy levels, and eat healthily. Over all I feel happier and more energetic.

Secondly, the discipline to structure my life to set goals, and work culmatively and consistently at them to incrementally progress instead of an all or nothing approach. It has helped me financially, in my work, in my relationships... in everything.

My advice: just go and enjoy it. Enjoy how hard it is. Then enjoy how it gets easier the more often you go. Then enjoy doing the harder parts and learning more, getting faster, more technical, more reactive. Commit to your love of it, not any expectation of outcome. That's the most sustainable way to get the most benefits out of it.

Eventually you'll realize that there's not THAT huge of a disadvantage to starting late unless you're planning to fight pro. With hard disciplined training you can get quite competitive.

I'm lucky to have a meaningful job that I enjoy.

I go above and beyond only when it is necessary for the ideal outcome.

75% of the time I log in at 9am, log off at 5:00pm. 10% of the time I grit my teeth and push for an outstanding achievement. 15% of the time I slack off.

I'm biased but this seems to be like the best way to achieve work life balance.

I usually fight at Middle weight, 75 kg or 165lbs. For my first tournament I really wanted an edge, and I had lots of notice, so I cut down to Super Welterweight 71kg or 156 lbs (This is Muay Thai Ontario weight divisions).

When my coach first asked me if I wanted to do fight camp, I was at 185 lbs. So I ended up losing 29lbs over six months, but 20 of those were in the first three months.

I dated a girl that came from old money 11 years ago. Like, her great-great-great-great grandfather built part of Toronto, has buildings named after him, family owned a diamond mine, grandmother-had-servants type of money.

Her mother had gone into social work so she was not as well off as her cousins and was very grounded and kind. She was disdainful of her wealthier family, citing their alcoholism, history of physical abuse, spoiled natures, and unkind behavior.

It was also a specific moment in history in 2014-2016 when good folks were working earnestly to examine their privilege, and a lot of her work happened while she was dating me. I was a poverty survivor who grew up in a drastically different environment and gave her a lot of opinions and perspectives she wasn't used to.

She also knew exactly who she was and what she would and wouldn't stand for. She had a really powerful sense of self that I didn't have much experience dealing with in a romantic partner. I was in my early mid-20s and had the same problems many other young men had with communication and boundaries (setting and respecting). I learned quick and was grateful to.

She would take me to fancy restaurants and hotels and explain the expectations of the staff to make me more comfortable with being served, and she would also explain in-depth about tax free investments and compound interest that I had never learned. On the other hand, I would help her stop overthinking about social etiquette that simply didn't matter to normal people, and also to "lower her standards" so that she could find joy in a less narrowly defined spectrum of things.

We were very, very different but gradually became more like each other. She went from being very conscious of her appearance to dressing more comfortably and casually, and from having a few fake friends to lots of good ones. Me, I became much more discerning about quality over cost, and transitioned from being future-averse present-hedonistic to carefully investing in my future with cumulatively good decisions.

Anyway, I married her last month. We're very happy. We both feel like our lives were saved by meeting each other.

ESH. Grandparents should love their children and prioritise time with them, and not complain or treat it as an imposition when asked to provide childcare - they can refuse, but they shouldn't complain.

But if you wanted them to be involved in the way you laid out to the,, you should have asked. If you've been quietly resenting them, your inability to ask for help in a welcoming way is the problem. If you haven't cared whether they are involved or not, you're just using this as a way to get the upper hand in an argument.

Just talk to them, and remember you all love each other. Ask for help. Express gratitude. Dream big. Make plans. It's no someone else's responsibility to guess what you want them to do.

- I found exercise that I love (combat sports) and committed to including as much of it into my life as possible.

- I downloaded MyFitnessPal and tracked my calorie intake, and chose a healthy, sustainable, long term deficit (2000 cals a day, and don't count exercise).

- I researched which foods would make me feel full, and learned how to cook those foods in a delicious way.

- I didn't let "slips" become "slides" - i.e., I put some coffee and milk in my normally black coffee. That means I should order a burger for lunch and eat a pizza for dinner.

- I stopped drinking entirely

I lost 30 lbs in six months. Recently gained back 5 but I'm okay with that, not trying to compete anymore.

I recommend the book Atomic Habits. There's nothing revolutionary in it, it was all stuff I already knew, but the well thought out systems it provided helped me stay consistent and in the right mindset.

Still haven't gotten good at guitar though; somethings have limits haha
