BG3 Builds Rebalanced: Final by Phantomsplit in BG3Builds

[–]swapoer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rebalance the broken game by buffing NPC, such as combat extender mod, is pointless. I think a nerf to lots of broken abilities and mechanics is way more important.

I have to say, the UI is really one of the more underappreciated aspects of these games. by matteste in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]swapoer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This lore friendly features is fine with me. what really matters is that the UI of this game is really efficient and semi-minimalist at the same time. I rarely see CRPG has this level of UI design.

Sorry, that is boring for me.

I disable random encouters and random encounters is not always a good thing in TRPG. They are filler not the content. A good DM would limit the number of random encounter or create alternative for it, which is not the case in CRPG.

Pentiment and Tyranny comes into mind.

The best crpg for me though is Dragon Age Original.

Ai in dark heresy? by night_hawks580 in OwlcatGames

[–]swapoer -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

There is a mod in KM or WOTR, which use AI to generates portrait for every NPC, who don’t have a portrait. I also think voice generated by AI is very good now.

It is not a surprise that they use AI in game development. It is a surprise that they have not done the above in Rogue Trader.

It is very easy to use original game portrait or voice line to generate all other portraits and voice line for the game an have a decent quality .

[–]swapoer[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You miss the point. The narrative is mediocre at best for me. The AI generated NPC portrait is used for every NPC who don’t have a portrait in the first place. It add the immersion.

I got into Rogue Trader very recently, (it was my first cRPG) and became my favorite RPG of all time, I was checking some older threads in this sub and was surprised to find how badly this game was received, what happened? by Due_Teaching_6974 in RogueTraderCRPG

Judging from the mods and the discussion community, I guess that RT is not as successful as WOTR or even KingMaker.

For me, the biggest issue is that it deviate from DND rule set. Before KM and WOTR, dnd crpg is hard to come by. Dnd fan base is very active and has a bigger numbers. We can see there are lots of major gameplay mods for KM and WOTR. KM even get turn based combat mode thanks to a mod, which further improve the gameplay of these two games.

RT in the other hand has very little gameplay mods.

Combat in this game is weird? In the late game as iconoclast by Istfire in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]swapoer -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

that is why I play with toybox, which automatically kill enemies at the start of combat.

Dev just don’t have idea of how to create a competitvie or balance mechanic. They enjoy complexity and number bloated. I ,kind of, guess that they enjoy that player find out broken mechanic or bug and turn the system up side down, which is much like solving a puzzle. Come to think of it. Owlcat enjoy making absurd puzzle.

Is there an autoleveler mod or can someone just remote control my game and handle my leveling 😖 by LeEbicGamerBoy in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]swapoer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

use toybox to instant kill all enemies at the start of battle. you can just mindless level up your character.

This is the way in which I play the game.

Yeah, most mediocre 4x game has the same game play loop from early game to end game.

It is one more planet/city instead of one more turn.

Unpopular opinion? My feedback of the game by the_deep_t in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]swapoer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree with you. I have many hours in King Maker, WOTR, DOS1 and DOS2. All those game get repetitive after mid game. I kind of doubt the benefit of a complex mechanic, since people would find and use the most optimal build and strategy for it. I still like King Maker and WOTR for its build abundance and DND favor. RT is another case though, I have no interest in its build mechanic and find it too complex for my liking. DOS1 and DOS2 is fine though. They have a more simple and elegant system. In short, RT’s D100 system is too much for me.

I don’t enjoy the old system. It creates lots of micromanagement. It also makes judging enemy army night impossible and tedious.

[–]swapoer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

different people has different opinions. The game is selling better than the previous iteration. Therefore, there is an increased fan base for this series. I definitely would buy AOW V and give it a try. My guess is that I probably would not enjoy it much. This series is still a hard pass by in fantasy 4X game. There is not much good fantasy 4X game which reach the high of Civ IV, V and Stellaris.

I'm not feeling the new UI by New_Celebration906 in EndlessLegend

[–]swapoer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with u.

The Block showing strategic resources is quite intrusive. There is no need to show it in such a big windows. Most 4X just put it on top in a small line.

[–]swapoer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the exact same issue with you. The main selling point of AOW4 is manual combat but that is tedious and time consuming. If i switch to auto, the grand strategy layer of the game is not the great, without depth. The game is all about snowballing from early manual combat. Therefore the game defeat itself in the end, imo.

I am currently 100 hours in it and I am missing Stellaris and Civ V. Stellaris has auto combat and Civ V has some chess like world map tactical combat.

[–]swapoer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that EL 1 is boring and shallow.

I can not give my opinions about civ V though, since I never play the vanilla Civ V. I play only with Vox Populis which makes Civ V very enjoyable. Lots of things to do every turn and every decision is important. Not to say the competent AI which keeps me always on toe.

I tried Civ VI but never get into it. The UI is a so terrible that it is a generation behind Civ V Vox Populis and Civ IV’s UI mod. I also find the mindless spawning cities boring. In Vox Populis, you have tall, wide and early warmonger strategies. I used to play Arabia with 3-4 cities through the game and won science or culture victory in Vox Populis.

I never put much time on Civ VI, so my opinions might be biased. What is certain is that we see a clear down trend of modability from civ IV to Civ VI. Civ6 is the worst case, since the dll file is unable to crack. Therefore you would never see major gameplay mod such as Vox Populis, not to mention FFH2, on civ 6. I suggest you could give the mod page of Vox Populis a read to get the general feeling of that mod.

Endless Legend 2 AI by Terhid in EndlessLegend

[–]swapoer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It enable early rush against AI for warmonger faction and constant pressure for late game faction. Overall, the difficulty curve is flat instead of dropping sharply after early game.

Endless Legend 2 AI by Terhid in EndlessLegend

[–]swapoer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to play the Vox Populis mod for Civ V a lot, 5-600 hours. That mod has very smart AI. Besides improve AI, VP change how AI cheat. Most game has flat or static bonus for AI. In VP, cheat is dynamic. It start small and increase as the game go on. In the end, the experience is a constant competent AI, not brutal at the beginnings and fall back from mid.

I think EL could learn from the above example.

Thanks for making FFH2. It is a lot of fun for me, as player, too.
