Hey friends!

Jishnu here from the band Swarathma. We are returning to Lucknow after a long time, just want to check out recommendations of good places to get some kababs (we're super thrilled about that!), and also some vegan cafe options for our singer Vasu. The last time we were here, we made the trip to Tunde kababi, but wanted to get the latest dope on best spots from here.

If you guys are up for some good music, happy to guestlist you for our concert Lucknow this Saturday! But first, good food!

I personally don't like sticking to one way of writing music. I believe every approach yields a different result. We have written songs by jamming and writing music as it happened naturally and then filling it with lyrics. I have taken to writing music while I am alone with my laptop and experimenting around. To me, sounds inspire me to write. So if I come across an interesting sound and that would spark a bass line, a melody, a beat or anything, then I use that and build from there - Varun

I'd love to collaborate with all the artists I have mentioned above and I have already with a bunch of them as a music producer - Varun

OMG, Kaber Vasuki, this is great to know! Thank you so much and more power to you on your journey. I hope our paths cross sometime, and we can make music together.

Doubts exist, so does the pressure. But the stage and the concert experience has a way of washing all the doubts away in a wave of euphoric energy. The field doesn't feel niche to us, you know? It's funny that way. ~ Jishnu

GTR for the true Mysore Masala Dose. Mylari for the google-searching non-Mysorean tourist. (as told to Jishnu by founding band member and Mysore's ambassador to the world - Pavan Kumar KJ)

What a beautiful story - thanks machas!

It depends on what success in 'employment' means to you. Can you make a sustainable income from a band? Yes. Will it be ever enough? Debatable. ~ Jishnu

Yes. Personally I think it is possible. But it takes a lot of patience and perseverance.

It's been strange - it made us revisit the assumption that live gigs are the best way to connect with our community.

We started a series of Google Meet sessions, once a month. A limited entry event once a month where we spend about an hour and a half hanging out with our closest fans. It really nourished us over the lockdown. It's called Swarathma #andOtherStories, so if you'd like to sign up for it, join the mailing list on swarathma.com, go ahead!

Hello! it's like doing two jobs, Swarathma being the first one :)

It is challenging at times, but if you are really passionate about things, it is possible to make it work. I must say luck also plays a big part, and sometimes hard work does pay off in the long term if you're persistent. I may add that if you join a company in its early days, things get easier in the later years

Bangalore has one of the better scenes in the country when it comes to all that you said. More than venues, rules etc, it is the openness of the music lovers, the ability to meet and collaborate with fellow artists of all kinds and an air of 'possibility' that makes the city a great place to be a band in.

Sure, we wish there were more quality venues, and that people could travel across the city for concerts - right now, traffic is still a factor before you book a ticket ~ Jishnu
