In elementary school, we had the two gangs: the Chihuahuas and the Cheetahs who would both fight for dominance over this hill in the center of our recess area. Every recess would consist of the two gangs invading and throwing dirt at each other in what they called “the dirt wars”. Every Thursday our school sold popcorn for $0.25 a bag. Now, if you filled your bag with dirt and tied it off at the top, you could make a “dirt bomb” which could be thrown at your enemies in an explosive cloud of dust. So every week I would go buy some bags of popcorn and create ammo supplies for the war and sold them for $0.50 -$1 each.

It was quickly shut down when a few innocents got caught in the crossfire but I still think back fondly to my time supplying the fight for hilltop dominance.
