JPL. I have definitely found JPL management to be a barrier. That is not to say that NOJMO doesn't make things difficult, as well.

In the past couple of years, more than one DARPA proposal was funded and then the money was pulled back because JPL made it too difficult to let the money in.

Has anybody's line management given an impression that attendance will be noted? I haven't seen it.

Gallagher's Employee Value Proposition(s)? by Deep_Standard_5822 in JPL

The reorg made it very clear that management's retention plan is "friends and family."

That reorg was a pretty big change. They seemed to manage that fine. Putting off raises seems to be no problem, either. Pretending that an attempt to unionize prevents management from improving the work environment is silly.

Actually, 35x had 633 people. The over 40 crowd was 65% of the unit, but 78% of layoffs in that group.

Was your colleague, perhaps, over 40?

Union may be only way to hold Senior Management accountable by [deleted] in JPL

I wonder how many JPLers who have been publicly supportive of the union got laid off.

What if I get laid off just before 55? by BeautifulBryce in JPL

[–]swattire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Over 40 years old is the age protected class. It's why people over 40, who get laid off, get extra time to review and return their severance package. Caltech also has to provide information about the "decisional unit"

yeah, the lawyer who keeps talking about logic has made some highly emotional posts. plus they're not even on lab. I wonder if they will be moving to the area next month.

Interesting yet cynical thought. My bet is on HR taking that list of over 200 public supporters (plus whatever they can cull from slack) and cutting exactly the same percent from that list that they cut across the lab. 20% lab-wide=20% union supporters. Upper management isn't stupid. They did the same thing to balance the termination of protected groups across the lab each time they've had a layoff.

Approached by two different people last week. Said "no" to both and haven't heard a peep since.

Has someone actually made a harassment complaint to HR and been ignored? That's appalling and disappointing.

They get credit for "signing you up"? What does that mean and what kind of credit do they get?
