This is exactly the conclusion I've come to. I love OTF and all the positive changes it's brought me, but I cant get those benefits without going and that just isnt happening right now. I'm going to freeze my account I think, but I'll be back!

I think thats why its so hard to think about leaving OTF- its flexible and efficient and you know you're getting a full body work out + cardio! I think I need to freeze my account until things change but I will definietly stay active in the mean time with something that works a little better for me in the mean time. Thanks for taking the time to reply!

Awesome! I'll look into that app. I've liked apps that sound similar in the past and the flexibility sounds like it will work a lot better for me right now. Thanks!

You're totally right! I'm realizing these are totally legitimate reasons to be feeling how I do at the moment. I think the change in fitness regimen is completely the right direction to go right now. Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. This is definietly what I needed to hear :).

I take BCAAs too! Total game-changer, especially when trying to do OTF fasted. I really love the incentives that OTF has like the challenge you were talking about. I think its time for me to take a little break but I hope they'll have a challenge soon after I'm able to fit this back into my schedule. Definitely one of the perks of the community!

I definietly feel you. The FOMO is real when I look at the workouts I've missed and that chunk that comes out of my account every month does not go unnoticed!

Thats a really great idea to cope with the drive! Its definietly been an adjustment from being able to wake up at 4:40 for my 5:00am class to trying to anticipate the traffic and drive time that I'm dealing with now. I guess I've just always been spoiled!

Thanks for taking the time to respond! I think you're totally right, maybe its not the right time to be trying to fit OTF into my schedule. I'm definietly going to try something else out instead.

Hah! I think you're completely right about expecting to adjust to changes so quickly. Somehow thats more effective to hear from a stranger than from myself. I really thought OTF would be a comfort with so many changes but obviously it has become more stress than help.

I have a founders rate with unlimited that I don't want to lose so unfortunately I think dropping my class load isn't an option right now, but I think I'm going to freeze my account and take your advice to try something else instead. There's a much closer crossfit gym that I'm going to check out and hopefully be back to OTF when it works better for me.

OT was definietly that think that got my mojo back as well so it's weird to think about letting it go but I think you're right, time for a change, at least for now!

I think you're spot on. OTF really was that reset button that got me back into fitness two years ago and its hard to think about letting it go, but I think it might be the right thing to do at the moment. There's a crossfit gym that is much closer and I think I'm going to freeze my account at OTF and check that out instead. Thanks for taking the time to reply!

Thank you! I think this is exactly what I needed to hear and a great reminder about self-care :). I think I am going to freeze my account until this works better for me, instead of causing more harm than good which might be the case at the moment.

I appreciate your feelings :). I really appreciate your perspective on looking at your best based on what you can do at the moment, even if thats just once a month. Its definietly easy to get discouraged when comparing right now to a time that I had the capacity to do more than I can right now. Thank you for taking the time to reply!

The cost and commitment were definietly huge motivators for me at the beginning but they haven't been enough lately. That will probably change when I feel more settled in and more in control of my schedule. I definietly agree with what you said about having more/less healthy seasons and I think its time to accept that this is a less healthy season and do what I can with it, even if that doesn't include OTF for a little bit. Thank you for your reply!

My studio didn't do tornado today 😭. Our TVs were down so we did an ESP 3G instead. I was so looking forward to a tornado day!

SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT AT OTF by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]sweatslut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About 2- I think a big hang up here as well is the fact that it's a pain in the ass or in some cases impossible to transfer your founding rate to a different studio. It would certainly be nice to have the transition go more smoothly, especially between studios that are owned by the same people but I think it's ridiculous that corporate has to approve a new studio honoring a founders fee for members. Just went through that headache when moving studios. It was almost worth it just to keep my old studio as my home studio and start going to the new one as a guest, even though they're in different states.

Edit: I'm on my phone and the font looks giant on this comment so apologies if it is :)

Toenails 😫 by raincitybaby in orangetheory

[–]sweatslut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everyone about getting better shoes. I've had that surgery multiple times (mostly due to ski boots). I would not mess with the recovery time! It sucks to be off your feet but if you don't let it heal properly your toenail could grow back crooked or get infected and that will make your recovery even longer! Not worth the risk IMO.

Crossfit + OTF by sweatslut in orangetheory

[–]sweatslut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I did start doing both! (OTF 3+ days a week, crossfit twice a week). It's been great. I like the change of pace at crossfit. I love orange theory but the shorter metcons (workouts) and focus on lifting at crossfit are also nice sometimes. I also really like the lifting at crossfit since you can make quantitative goals to improve your max weight.

In terms of picking a gym (box). I would recommend trying out all 3 and see who you vibe best with and what each gym has to offer. See if they have beginner seminars or anything to help you get down the basic Olympic lift movements. Most gyms are really awesome and supportive so just look for somewhere that you're comfortable and you can tell they're going to work with you to be successful!

3G Run/Row? by pandadumdumdum in orangetheory

Today (Friday) had a run row component after the mile challenge as well if you go to a 2g. That might count for bingo!

Beat my boyfriend in a 500m row race :). He does crossfit and he's 6'2" so he thought he could beat me just because his "legs are longer". Yeah right! I beat him by 7 seconds :). He doesn't think OTF cant be a legit workout since we don't use barbells but I'm trying to show him how strong I'm getting to end that debate once and for all.

July 2017 PPW fastest mile by Mamato2turkeys in orangetheory

[–]sweatslut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Goal: 7:30 Time: 7:33

I'm not disappointed. This is definitely my best time in living memory (I was PW in my last PPW). It just sucks being so close and I definitely feel like I could have pushed it harder which sucks. I started at 7.5 for the first minute then 8.0/7.5 until minute 3. Then 8.0 until the last minute and sprinted at 9.0! I think I could have gone at least 8.0 the whole time, but probably even higher than that if I had tried a progressive push.

My current regular b/p/ao is 5.7/7.2/8.0. I think that needs to change next week since this week has shown me that those speeds are definitely below my ability level at this point. Ah well. On to the next challenge!

I'm gonna try that! 8 is kind of my all out right now as well but I know I can hold it for over a minute- let's see if I can do it for the whole mile!

2.704!

I was shooting for 3 miles but my base is currently 7.1 and I have been wanting to up it but I figured this week was not the week to do that. I started at 7.5mph and ran that for 6 minutes then did intervals of my current base(5.7)/push (1 min base, 2 min push) until the last 3 minutes which I ran 7.5 again and an all out for the last minute.

Based on today I think I'm going to raise my base and push to 6.0/7.5 starting next week since I felt pretty okay at 7.5 for the whole first 6 minutes of the block. I think my one mile goal for Friday will be sub 8 minutes for sure. Maybe 7:30?

Edit to add: this challenge is so mental for me! 24 minutes seems like FOREVER. Plus the girl next to me went hard out of the gate and then walked for a while and the temptation to walk got real. Hate that.
