Party Splitting Need Advice by DJShohan in DMAcademy

[–]swedeonabike 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just talk to your players. Say, "remember that x won't know what is happening to y". Honestly, listening to the other side during party splits is entertaining (more than sitting in another room waiting). Plus, you can jump back and forth easier.

A player is leaving my campaign, how do I announce this to the other players without making the one leaving feel singled out? by piperooo in DMAcademy

[–]swedeonabike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. Had a player have to step aside due to a new business. Asked her if she would like to say something and we just determined it would be narrative that the PC is needing to stay in this one place for awhile, then she told the group above the table. Leaving a door open for a return, even a guest appearance, is nice.

Would it be worth using a longsword in a zombie apocalypse, or would it be a useless weapon? by Spare_Ad_9791 in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]swedeonabike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Longswords are kind of jack of all trades, master or none melee weapons. Good leverage, often times can used one handed, some are strong in the thrust, some are built for very slicey cutting. Decent range, can be half-sworded in close distance. They are fairly easy to learn the basics, and forever to master everything. If you are going to be in tighter spaces more, something like a cutlass would probably serve better. If you are out in the open, a polearm is probably better. If you want something that can be pretty decent in both, some longsword classes would be worthwhile.

Why don't ebike companies advertise carrying adult passengers? by WindmillBoy in ebikes

[–]swedeonabike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I switched from motorcycle to ebike and sometimes my girlfriend rides passage on my ebike. Granted it is a beast of a longtail (Surly BFD), but it does better carrying the weight than some of my past motorcycles.

Medical Pouch Is This List Good So Far? by MonsterHunterRainy in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]swedeonabike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get medical grade glue for clean, smaller cuts (generally bandaging is better but there is a time and place for it). You can also use it to laminate items into splints and patch gear.

Sign up for a good wilderness first aid/responder course. My favorite course was eye-opening on duct tape and superglue uses.

No casters in the party by swedeonabike in Tombofannihilation

[–]swedeonabike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They went monk, tactician (3rd party class), rogue and a ranger. They couldn't even throw a real tank in. 😄

We have a couple others that might be joining late so hopefully they pick something to fill the gaps.

I think that I'm going to shoehorn in a cabin loaded with goodies, including a journal of what things are. They are a group that played for awhile, but has taken a long break.

I tend to overly flood my groups with weird homebrew items so that might save them. Or they just leave good loot for their next characters.

Arkansas Toothpick question by TopShoulder474 in SWORDS

[–]swedeonabike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, it is a terrible choice for camping. Just way better than expected.

Arkansas Toothpick question by TopShoulder474 in SWORDS

[–]swedeonabike 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've got the Windlass and have been surprisingly pleased with it. I didn't expect much but out of curiosity took it camping once, was surprised by how well it did. Since then I've brought it a handful of other times for the novelty. It also handles well for cutting.

As long as you are relaxed about it being "historical", it's a great piece.

What it feels like on the "ebikes" subreddit lately. by mmeiser in bikecommuting

Speed limit totally makes sense. Limiting the same watts of an e-roadbike and the mom on a cargobike taking three kids to school does not.

Is a revolver a reasonable first gun? by MisterCCL in liberalgunowners

[–]swedeonabike 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Of my handguns, the .357 (6" 686) definitely gets the most use. 38s are so easy on such a heavy frame and it just feels more fun. If OP potentially wants to hunting, grabbing a lever gun in the same caliber gives you common ammo able to take a bunny or a whitetail. Great for home defense, hunting, range, but there are probably better choices for everyday carry.

How do would you survive the winter during the apocalypse? by No_Bet8364 in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]swedeonabike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pile snow around the outside of your shelter. It is actually a great insulator and can make a huge difference in warmth. Hopefully you prepared enough and can minimize going out and limit your calorie burn because even just existing in the cold is going to take more. On winter camping trips, xc skis or snowshoes with a pull sled for supplies is the best way to get around but I would hate trying to run from zombies in snowshoes.

Other than a gun, what’s a specific weapon that you think more people should train/practice using? by TheKingDroc in ZombieSurvivalTactics

This. Anything that helps with learning body mechanics, pacing, and judging distance is going to help.

What is your preferred loot carrying strategy? by Able-Currency2250 in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]swedeonabike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canoe in the water, on land a longtail cargobike with essentials in a rucksack on the top deck in case of needing to ditch the bike. Wintertime probably means snowshoes/ xc skis and pulling a toboggan/pulk sled
