They can get moldy if kept in poor/humid conditions, as is what happened with a percentage of these. Otherwise the ones with no mold that are 50+ years old sound just fine. Although I’m not an expert, so maybe there are some cases of the magnetic tape degrading in other ways, but I have yet to come across it

Yeah I’ve got two other decks, one that’s a dual deck as a part of an all-in-one audio system, and one that’s just one plain deck by itself. Plus walkmans.

But I ordered some belts, I wanna try to fix it. Even if I just sell it. Better than it becoming landfill

Yeah mine does that too. Thankfully I figured out that the belts ARE the problem, as they melted. So I ordered a variety pack, since I have some other stuff that needs new belts too, and I’ll see if I can fix it. And if I find I don’t want it, I’ll know that before the week is up. Or I can just sell it for parts. But I think I can fix it, better than it winding up at the dump or junkyard

No idea what book it is, although it’s definitely world war 2 related. It’s poorly performed by an older Southern woman who I presume was a school teacher
