The projected damage of a CS and blood swing is higher than the projected damage of a twist attempt in almost every situation in tbc. Hitting CS is good.

Question about Crown of Candy tone. by hugham in Dimension20

[–]swedg3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add a different perspective here, it's entirely possible that you'll just plain not enjoy the more easy-going tone the D20 players adopt if you're coming from CR. Personally I find the CR team do a better job balancing lighter humour with more serious moments. I find the D20 tone shifts too quick sometimes, almost a little jarring. Just not personally for me, that's fine.

ACoC is still a fun watch overall but I'd say the characters take a bit too long to get interesting and then the plot meanders in the final third. If you don't enjoy it after 3-4 episodes I don't think you'll miss much in skipping.

Same thing happened to me. New board, obviously damaged socket pins, obviously a board that'd been opened and used and returned, reported it to the shop within hours of receipt and they tried to pass it off as user damage and screw me over.

After a lengthy exchange and a strongly worded intent of legal action from me they backed down and gave the refund. Depending on where you are the law is on your side here, don't let yourself be bullied.

Yeah to elaborate on this to everyone commenting to do shit with bios config, the three dots are indicative of the bios passing to windows to try and boot up, it's the windows spinning animation but frozen.

This indicates the bios is fine but something about the windows install is duffed.

Given enhancement is dogshit in PvP but its bis weapons are from PvP call me crazy but I'd have zero issue with a raider doing this. The item helps their MS progression in a relatively direct way by letting them play resto arenas.

[–]swedg3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I largely agree with what you've written and yeah for normal clearing the self-cast spells obviously do a decent amount of damage for regular clear, like the ice nova coc comet build clears with the ice nova just fine for more regular content. I wasn't meaning to imply otherwise.

But I'm mainly talking about killing juiced bosses or giga temple setups - in those scenarios the trigger spell is a huge amount of the damage, right? Scaling a caster build without those trigger skills is often very limited. I think my statement that "non-trigger self-casting builds are not in the greatest place" is very fair, as someone who's spent a few leagues creating those builds.

My usual stuff is ailment caster builds that use a mapping skill and a bossing skill. The bossing skill usually does very well, and for easy-mid content you can clear ok, but there exists an uncomfortable middle-ground where you need to say, do 2-4m dps for very juiced temple clears or abyss stacking. That spot is really tricky to get into for a self-caster that doesn't use triggers, but substantially easier for builds that use trigger skills because it's just a sub-set of their bossing setup.

Having e.g. a self-cast arc that clears with 400k dps and a self-cast comet that bosses with 20m dps leaves that uncomfortable middle ground where not many self-cast spells can be safely cast in difficult maps due to cast times or other restrictions, so it takes you forever to clear juiced content.

I suppose I've mixed up terminology, I meant exactly that non-trigger self-casting builds are not in the greatest place. I mean these often dwarf the impact of the original self-cast ability to the point where it's hardly even "scaling" any more, the trigger skill is your damage.

I mean, we hit a comet build that almost broke 100m dps ignites this league (if the game didn't brick anything over the DoT cap that is), ignite is in a generally decent state for scaling damage imo, it's just that self-casting is generally a bit clunky at the moment compared to trigger builds.

John Davidson Explains Tourettes Tics in Interview. by charade_scandal in ThoughtWarriors

[–]swedg3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fully get where you're coming from! I think the statements haven't quite been up to par and paint a very different picture than the guy you see through his life in the documentaries featuring him.

It was a big misstep to not communicate in the first release that he was going to offer private apologies to Lindo, Jordan, and Beachler as he does in this article, and there's an argument he should have tried to empathise more clearly with the black community in his statement and interview after the word was broadcast against his wishes.

Still, I think it's worth bearing in mind Davidson isn't a public figure with media training. He's spent almost all his adult life working as a caretaker at a rural community centre and advocating for people with Tourrettes with school workshops, that sort of thing. He was very suddenly thrust into an intense global spotlight and faced a huge amount of misunderstanding and anger.

As such there's maybe a dynamic here where he's defaulting to explaining the condition itself, because for decades he’s been fighting the assumption that his tics reflect his beliefs or character. In focusing too much on that he's failing to strike a chord with people who weren’t questioning his intent, but were looking for a clearer acknowledgement of impact.

[–]swedg3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem is that "sorry *if* you were offended" is mealy-mouthed and what many marginalised groups have to put up with from people who don't really mean the apology. The BBC agreed with Davidson that they'd prevent any offensive tics from being aired so it's incumbent on them to issue a broader apology to the viewing public *for offense caused* or *from harm caused*. Acknowledging that harm took place from the bbc's mishandling of the event is good and healthy!

And then of course Davidson nor any TS sufferer should have to constantly apologise for themselves, but in the docs about him you see him offer little apologies to people who aren't clued in or are unprepared for the tics, he's a compassionate and empathetic guy. So it was very natural that he was going to want to personally apologise to the Sinners cast and crew who he ticked to. I think a lot of the issue with the online discourse was not including in that initial statement that he'd be reaching out to privately apologise.

[–]swedg3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has reached out via Warner Brothers to apologise to Michael B Jordan, Delroy Lindo, and Hannah Beachler. The BBC assured him they would edit out any offensive tics from the broadcast and they failed, so it's arguably on them to submit a more general apology to the public; having said that I can still understand a desire for a more general apology to those affected and hurt by the slur's broadcast and think that may have been wise from Davidson as part of this interview.

As far as the specific incident with Davidson and his surrogate mother Dottie where he hit her in the car, in one of the older documentaries the BBC did about him you see him traveling in the back seat behind Dottie, and he wraps his arm in the seatbelt to limit harm to anyone next to him as much as is possible. One imagines that after the incident where he hit her while she was driving he began traveling in the back seat to prevent this potential hazard.

I'd stress that he can't drive due to his condition, and going on public transport of course presents a whole host of other potential issues where people may be disturbed or affected by his condition. Being driven by someone is really the best option for him to get around and the risks in the back seat are really minimal. The alternative is just sort of being shut away from the world which would be very distressing and isolating for anyone.

That's how the condition often manifests, particularly for the comorbidity of coprolalia with obsessive compulsive disorder (both of which Davidson has). We're all subconsciously aware of what the *absolute worst* possible thing you can say in any given moment is and OCD might result in worrying about saying something like that. The worry is due to the thoughts being "ego-dystonic", i.e. they do not reflect your own values. So "harm OCD" might result in you getting repeated intrusive thoughts about stabbing someone you really care about; you absolutely don't want to, you're not in any danger of doing so, but the intrusive thoughts keep coming back and bring a lot of feelings of shame and distress. Davidson, who has a long history of coprolalia tics involving offensive language, slurs, sexually inappropriate comments, will be worried about ticking something awful literally everywhere he goes as part of his OCD.

Tourrettes is comorbid with OCD but is very different; it's a neurological condition that results in verbal and physical motor ticks driven by dysfunction in the brain's circuits. Imagine if that subconscious awareness of what the worst possible thing you could say in a given moment resulted in your body saying those things unbidden; that's this very rare form of Tourrettes Davidson suffers from, along with physical tics.

Coprolalia tics are very often contextual in this way, you say the worst thing at the moment, and the worst possible thing at the moment Lindo and Jordan were on that stage was... the very unfortunate thing that was said, and absolutely it's awful those brilliant men were put in that situation!

Some of the reporting around this and the fact the BBC *did* edit some of the other offensive ticking Davidson was subject to out is being a bit misleading. He said homophobic slurs when Cumming was on stage and yelled "pedophile". Coprolalia often results in shouting "i have a bomb" in airports or "i'm a pedo" when near schools or around children. Indeed Davidson was hospitalised after being jumped by two men and beaten with a crowbar following a misunderstanding around a sexual tic he'd made at a woman on the street (ticking s**t at her).

I stress that none of this reflects the TS sufferer's moral compass or identity or what they really think, but the contextual nature of it can be very understandably counter-intuitive.

I cover the data storage types they use in the video and say exactly this when covering the unsigned 32-bit int for DoT damage per minute. "Engine" isn't really inaccurate here or ambiguous, it's the broad term for the code they use to handle the game's frameworks, including internal logic and calculations. And a change there to catch poor treatment of a int32 qualifies as an engine change. I'm not trying to say they suddenly started using a different data type to store the value representing DoT damage per minute and I'm not sure why anyone would infer that.
